Poonch,June 7,At least 13 shops were gutted in a massive fire incident that broke out at the Main Chowk market in the Bufliaz area of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district on Sunday, officials said.

Reports reaching News Agency said that the blaze erupted in the busy Bufliaz market, triggering panic among shopkeepers and local residents. The fire spread rapidly to adjoining structures, engulfing a total of 13 shops before efforts were launched to bring the situation under control.

Soon after the incident, local residents, personnel of the Indian Armyโ€™s Romeo Force, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to the spot and joined the rescue and firefighting operation to prevent the flames from spreading further.

Station House Officer (SHO) Surankote, Abid Bukhari, also reached the site and supervised the operation on the ground.

The exact cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained. However, the authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

No loss of life or injuries had been reported till the filing of this report, while the extent of damage to property was being assessed by the concerned authorities.

*EOW Files Chargesheet Against An Accused For Using Fraudulent Certificates To Secure Extended Service*

Srinagar, June 7:The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 05/2026 under Sections 420, 468, and 471 RPC before the Honโ€™ble Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Sumbal, against two accused persons: Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jawad Bhat, and Assadullah Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat, Sumbal, District Bandipora, for offences relating to Cheating and Forgery.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that investigation found that the accused concealed their educational qualifications, falsely claimed illiteracy, and obtained altered dates of birth through fraudulent certificates. This led to incorrect service records and unlawful extension of service tenure. They gained undue financial benefits, causing loss to the State exchequer. The chargesheet has been filed before the Court.

The general public is advised to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report any such incidents to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K. Calls for seamless coordination among Departments, Stakeholders

SRINAGAR, JUNE 06: Ahead of the forthcoming Muharram-ul-Haram, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, today chaired a high-level meeting of senior officers and stakeholders to review preparedness and ensure the smooth, peaceful and hassle-free observance of religious rituals and processions across the Valley.

The meeting focused on assessing civic, infrastructural, logistical and administrative arrangements required during the holy month, with special emphasis on inter-departmental coordination and sustained engagement with community representatives.

During the meeting, MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, highlighted several issues requiring attention in Shia-dominated areas to facilitate mourners. He stressed the need for uninterrupted electricity and drinking water supply, macadamization and repair of roads, functioning street lighting, and adequate deployment of medical personnel at major religious venues.

Representatives of various associations and stakeholders also projected a range of requirements, including enhanced sanitation and cleanliness measures, fumigation drives, availability of firewood, ration and LPG supplies, mitigation of the stray dog menace, deployment of water tankers, streamlined permissions for religious events, comprehensive traffic management plans, identification of parking spaces, and provision of shuttle services between parking areas and procession routes.

Emphasizing the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders, the Divisional Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners and concerned departments to designate nodal officers and share their contact details with community representatives to ensure effective communication and prompt resolution of issues.

The Deputy Director Planning, Divisional Commissionerโ€™s Office, was designated as the Divisional-level Nodal Officer for coordination and monitoring of arrangements.

Garg instructed Deputy Commissioners to prepare detailed district-wise checklists of requirements and ensure that all short-term issues are addressed on priority. He further directed that larger developmental concerns raised by stakeholders be incorporated into future planning frameworks.

To facilitate smooth movement of mourners and processions, the Divisional Commissioner directed the preparation of a comprehensive list of roads requiring repair and macadamization in Shia-dominated areas and instructed the concerned departments to ensure timely ex*****on of necessary works.

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) were directed to ensure uninterrupted water and electricity supply throughout the Muharram period. Additional water tankers shall also be deployed in areas witnessing higher demand.

The Divisional Commissioner further directed the concerned departments to ensure adequate availability and timely distribution of essential supplies, including firewood, ration and LPG, in areas where demand is expected to increase during the observance.

Underscoring the importance of sanitation and public hygiene, Garg instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and other urban local bodies to undertake special cleanliness drives around Imambaras, congregation sites and procession routes. He emphasized both pre- and post-procession sanitation measures, including intensified late-night waste collection and disposal operations.

The Health Department was directed to deploy sufficient medical teams, ambulances and emergency response units at key locations and augment manpower, particularly in Srinagar and Budgam districts, to provide timely medical assistance to mourners.

The Divisional Commissioner also called for comprehensive traffic management plans, identification of suitable parking areas, and deployment of shuttle services wherever required to facilitate smooth movement of devotees and minimize inconvenience to the general public.

To ensure the peaceful conduct of all religious events, Garg stressed the need for foolproof security arrangements through close coordination among Police, civil administration and security agencies.

Reiterating the administrationโ€™s commitment to facilitating the observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, the Divisional Commissioner urged all departments to put in place the requisite arrangements well in advance and work in close coordination to ensure that all religious gatherings and processions are conducted smoothly, peacefully and with utmost convenience for devotees.

The meeting was attended by the DIG Central Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners, officers from KPDCL, PHE, R&B, Health, FCS&CA, Fire & Emergency Services, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Police, security agencies and other concerned departments.

JAMMU: June 6 Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday led a massive padyatra in Kishtwar as the ongoing drug-free J&K campaign reached its19th district, reaffirming the administrationโ€™s commitment to eliminating drug abuse and narco-terrorism from the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor said the fight against drugs is a long-term battle that requires sustained, round-the-clock efforts and collective participation.
Addressing a public rally in Kishtwar, the Lieutenant Governor said authorities were breaking the chain of the drug trade at every level and vowed stringent action against drug smugglers and narco-terrorists.
โ€œWe are breaking the chain of the drug trade at every single link. Whether itโ€™s cross-border smugglers, peddlers or terror financiers, there is no safe haven. Our agencies are hunting down every narco-terrorist and permanently dismantling their networks,โ€ Sinha said.
He said that during the last 56 days, people from all walks of life had participated in the campaign across Jammu and Kashmir, sharing the pain of affected families and inspiring youth to stay away from drugs. โ€œOur goal is to foster a grassroots resistance against drug abuse and end narco-terrorism,โ€ he said.
The Lieutenant Governor, who launched the campaign on April 11, noted that it had now covered 19 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, strengthening public resolve to eradicate drugs from villages and towns.
โ€œFor 56 days, I have pursued a single mission of eliminating every drug smuggler and narco-terrorist from this land. Narco-terrorists and drug smugglers, whether in Pulwama or Ramban, Kulgam or Kishtwar, must understand that there will be no mercy for those who ruin the future of our young generation,โ€ he said.
Referring to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sinha said there would be no leniency towards narco-terrorists, while individuals seeking to overcome addiction would continue to receive support and rehabilitation.
โ€œWe are ensuring that drug addicts who seek a path to recovery are provided all possible assistance and brought back into the mainstream with compassion and dignity. But compassion cannot be wasted on narco-terrorists who profit from othersโ€™ ruin,โ€ he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the 100-day Drug-Free J&K Campaign was only the beginning of a larger and sustained effort against the menace.
โ€œIt is a war of years, not a battle of weeks. Victory demands a unified, roundthe-clock commitment. By mobilising a whole-of-society approach, we will ensure that Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s soil is completely cleared of drug smugglers and peddlers,โ€ he said.

Making an appeal from the โ€œsacred land of Kishtwarโ€, the Lieutenant Governor said Jammu and Kashmir is strongest when its people stand united against drugs and work collectively for hope, change and a better future.
โ€œEvery voice matters, every action counts and together we can create a safer and healthier Union Territory,โ€ he said.
Sinha said the administration was embedding the spirit of the campaign into communities by empowering citizens to identify early signs of addiction and intervene in time.
He lauded the role of teachers, Panchayat Mahila Samitis, religious leaders and civil society organisations in strengthening the movement and safeguarding the future of the youth.
โ€œThis is a defining moment for the future of our children. The people have spoken with one voice that narco-terrorists must be driven from this land,โ€ he added.
He said that during the past 56 days, authorities had registered 1,026 FIRs, arrested 1,128 drug smugglers, attached more than 100 properties linked to smugglers, cancelled nearly 700 driving licences and recommended cancellation of passports of 130 accused drug traffickers.

Properties Worth โ‚น3.5 Crore Linked to Drug Trade Seized by Srinagar Police

Srinagar, June 6th : In a major action against narcotics trafficking, Srinagar Police on Saturday attached properties worth nearly โ‚น3.5 crore belonging to two alleged drug peddlers under the NDPS Act as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.

Officials said Police Station Nigeen attached a house and land valued at around โ‚น1.30 crore in the Hazratbal area, while Police Station Soura seized a residential property worth approximately โ‚น2.20 crore in Upper Soura.

Police investigations found that the assets were allegedly acquired through proceeds from illegal drug trafficking. The properties have been frozen, preventing their sale, transfer, lease, or any other transaction until further legal orders.

Police said the move reflects its continued commitment to dismantling the narcotics network by targeting assets generated through the drug trade and reiterated its appeal for public cooperation in reporting drug-related offences.

Jammu, 06th June 2026: โ€œWe are breaking the chain of the drug trade at every single link. Whether itโ€™s cross-border smugglers, peddlers or the terror financiers- there is no safe haven. Our agencies are hunting down every narco-terrorist and permanently dismantling their networks,โ€ the Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha said on Saturday. He observed that over the last nearly two months, citizens from all walks of life, have walked streets across the Union Territory, shared the pain of affected families, and energized our youth.

โ€œOur goal is to foster a grassroots resistance against drug abuse and end narco-terrorism,โ€ he said.

The Lieutenant Governor was addressing the public rally at Kishtwar. The campaign has so far covered 19 districts of Jammu Kashmir, reinforcing a collective commitment to eradicate drugs from villages and towns.

โ€œFor 56 days I have pursued a single mission of eliminating every drug smuggler and narco-terrorist from this land. Narco-terrorists and drug smugglers, whether in Pulwama or Ramban, Kulgam or Kishtwar, must understand this truth that there will be no mercy for those who ruin the future of our young generation,โ€ the Lieutenant Governor said.

He said under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, there is no mercy for narco-terrorists.

โ€œWe are ensuring that drug addicts who seek a path to recovery are provided all possible assistance and brought back to the mainstream with compassion and dignity. But compassion cannot be wasted on narco-terrorists who profit from othersโ€™ ruin, who thrive on destruction, who aim to drain the life from Kishtwarโ€™s villages and towns. My objective is very clear that ruthless action will be taken against narco-terrorists while unwavering protection will be ensured for the innocent,โ€ the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor said that although J&K Drug-Free Campaign is scheduled for 100 days, it marks the start of a much larger fight. He said eliminating this threat requires a marathon effort.

โ€œIt is a war of years, not a battle of weeks. Victory demands a unified, round-the-clock commitment. By mobilizing a whole-of-society approach, we will ensure that J&K's soil is completely cleared of drug smugglers and drug peddlers. During the Padyatra across Jammu Kashmir, I have witnessed the incredible courage of young men and women breaking the shackles of addiction to reclaim their lives. That is why we cannot fail. This campaign is a matter of the soul of Jammu Kashmir," the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor said in order to safeguard youth, the administration is embedding the spirit of this mission into the very fabric of our neighborhoods, equipping communities to recognize the warning signs, intervene early, and shield each other.

Hyderabad Tourist Declared Dead After Being Brought to SMHS Hospital

Srinagar, June 6, : A 60-year-old tourist from Hyderabad was declared brought dead after being shifted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Mir Sajid Ali, son of Mir Mehmood, a resident of Hyderabad, who was presently staying at a hotel in Rajbagh, Srinagar.

Officials said the tourist was brought to SMHS Hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him brought dead.

The exact cause of death was not immediately known, and authorities were ascertaining the circumstances leading to the incident.

Hospital sources confirmed that the body was received at the hospital and necessary medico-legal formalities were being carried out.

Police have taken cognizance of the matter, while further proceedings are underway. [KNT]

Dehradun, Jun 6: The arrest of two women from Haridwar by Jammu and Kashmir Police for suspected financial transactions linked to Pakistan, has created a flutter among Uttarakhand security forces.

After the arrest of the first woman, Sonam, from Asafnagar village of Haridwar's Kaliyar Kotwali area, relating to her alleged financial transaction linked to Pakistan on May 26, Jammu and Kashmir Police on June 4 took her friend Pooja along with them for investigation.

The women were arrested following an input received from a man named Rahul Khan of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Khan confided to Jammu and Kashmir police about his Pakistan connection and links with Sonam and Puja in Haridwar.

He was arrested from the Lakhanpur police station area of District Kathua.

Khan, who is accused of being involved in financial transactions worth crores of rupees from Pakistan, revealed the involvement of Sonam.

According Haridwar police, Rahul Khan informed J&K Police he was operating a bank account in the name of Sonam for conducting illegal financial transactions worth crores.

According to Haridwar police, Sonam used to transfer the money to other states on behalf of Rahul Khan for a fixed commission in return.

A police official from Haridwar shared on condition of anonymity that Puja, a resident of Dhanauri in Haridwar, had introduced Sonam to a man identified as Umar, following which the latter got Sonam in touch with Rahul Khan.

Haridwar police stated that earlier Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Sonam and took her away with them.

After this talk of the involvement of another woman working with Sonam in the illegal transactions from Pakistan surfaced. On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrived in Dhanauri and took Puja into custody.

On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir Police sought her transit remand for further probe. Following this, her transit remand was secured on Thursday and late in the evening Jammu and Kashmir Police left with Pooja for further probe.

Haridwar SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar confirmed that Jammu and Kashmir Police team questioned Puja and took her with them for more investigation.โ€“(UNI)
