Crime Branch Kashmir Busts Multi-Crore Land Compensation Scam; 10 Accused Charge-Sheeted

Srinagar, Nov 7: In a major breakthrough against financial fraud and corruption in government departments, the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge-sheet against ten accused individuals for their alleged involvement in a fictitious land compensation scam in Anantnag, where forged revenue records were used to illegally obtain public funds meant for land acquisition.

In a statement as per news agency Kashmir News Corner --- KNC, The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge-sheet in case FIR No. 12/2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B RPC read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Anantnag.

The charge-sheet has been produced against ten accused individuals for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent compensation case related to fictitious land acquisition in Anantnag District, it reads.

The case pertains to the fraudulent release of compensation amounts in favour of non-existent beneficiaries whose land was falsely shown to have been acquired by the Government during the construction of the Verinag-Kokernag road via Batagund, statement reads.

During investigation, it was found that certain officials of the Revenue Department (the then Tehsildar Dooru, the then Naib Tehsildar Dooru, the then Girdawar Dooru and the then Pathwari Dooru), in criminal conspiracy with private individuals , manipulated and forged revenue records to facilitate the illegal disbursement of compensation funds. Fictitious entries were allegedly made in official records to obtain wrongful monetary gains, causing significant loss to the State exchequer and undermining public trust, it reads.

After thorough investigation and collection of evidence, the Economic Offences Wing has filed the charge-sheet before the Hon’ble Court for judicial determination, it reads

Poonch Police Seize ₹8.5 Lakh Property Linked to Telegram & Dream11 Fraud Racket

Poonch, Nov 6: In a major action against proceeds of crime derived from online fraud, Police Station Surankote has attached property worth approximately ₹8.5 lakh under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

In a statement issued here to news agency Kashmir News Corner --- KNC, During the investigation of Case FIR No. 71/2025 U/S 319(2)/318(4)/336(3)/340(2)/3(5) BNS & 66(C)/66(D) IT Act, it was revealed that one Maruti Suzuki Brezza car (Registration No. JK02CQ-2851) had been purchased by the accused Sajid Khan S/O Mohd Sadiq R/O Drogain, Tehsil Surankote, from proceeds of crime generated through fraudulent activities involving cheating and impersonation using the Telegram application and Dream11 platform.

Acting on the directions of the competent authority and in accordance with legal provisions, the said vehicle has been attached/seized under Section 107 BNSS to prevent its alienation, transfer, or disposal, it reads.

An attachment notice has also been affixed on the vehicle, cautioning the general public that no person shall purchase, lease, or create any third-party interest in the said property until further orders, it reads.

District Police Poonch, under the overall supervision of SSP Poonch Sh. Shafkat Hussain, JKPS, remains committed to identifying, restraining, and confiscating properties acquired through unlawful means in strict accordance with the law, reads the statement. (KNC)

Pulwama administration asks Journalists to furnish Aadhaar, PAN, affiliation letters, digital platform details

Pulwama, Nov 6: The District Information Office (DIO) Pulwama has issued a formal circular directing all journalists and media personnel operating in the district to submit their professional credentials and identification details within seven days, as part of a verification and vigilance drive aimed at curbing the misuse of media identity cards.

The directive, issued by the District Information Officer Pulwama, follows the orders of the Joint Director Information, Kashmir (Vide No. INF/K-Estt.2091-98/2025. The circular emphasizes “vigilance, monitoring, and reporting of misuse of media identity and impersonation in District Pulwama,” seeking to establish a transparent system for bona fide media professionals.

According to the order, journalists have been asked to submit credentials, which include Aadhaar and PAN cards, appointment letters, organisation contact details, six months’ salary or bank statements, academic qualification certificates, and links to Facebook, YouTube, X (Twitter), and Instagram pages of the respective media outlets they represent.

Officials said the move is intended to protect the credibility of professional journalists and check the growing issue of impersonation and unverified media activity. “This step is not against any genuine journalist; it’s meant to safeguard responsible journalism and prevent misuse of media identity,” an official told Kashmir News Trust.

Copies of the circular have been forwarded to the District Magistrate Pulwama, Director Information & PR J&K, Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama/Awantipora, and the Joint Director Information Kashmir for necessary action and record.

The DIO Pulwama has urged all media professionals to comply within the stipulated time frame to avoid inconvenience and to help maintain the integrity of journalism in the district. [KNT]
