Anantnag Police Apprehends Drug Peddler in Bijbehara; Charas Powder Recovered.

Anantnag, June 19: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Anantnag Police achieved another success by apprehending a drug peddler in the Bijbehara area and recovering a contraband substance from his possession.

During a routine police operation conducted during the night, a team from Police Station Bijbehara apprehended one individual identified as Tariq Ahmad Dass S/O Mohammad Rafiq Dass, resident of Dasspora Waghama, at Waghama. During his search, approximately 110 grams of a charas powder was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, FIR No. 172/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and investigation into the matter has been taken up.

Anantnag Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and appeals to the public to continue supporting the fight against drugs by sharing any information related to drug trafficking or substance abuse. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.

Conducted from June 16 to June 18, the workshop provided participants with essential emergency response and CPR training. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to all participants in recognition of their successful completion of the course.

Anantnag Police Conducts Mock Drill at Bumzoo Ahead of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026

Anantnag, June 17: As part of the security preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, Anantnag Police conducted a comprehensive mock drill at Bumzoo to assess operational readiness and strengthen emergency response mechanisms.

The exercise simulated various security scenarios and focused on coordinated action, rapid response, area domination, evacuation procedures, and effective handling of contingencies. Personnel demonstrated preparedness in dealing with potential challenges while ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims and the general public.

The mock drill also served as an opportunity to evaluate inter-unit coordination, communication systems, and standard operating procedures under realistic conditions. Senior officers supervised the exercise and reviewed the performance of participating personnel.

Two Feared Dead After Vehicle Falls Into Nallah in Pahalgam’s Aru Valley

Anantnag, June 17 (KF): Two persons, including a man from Dialgam and a woman from Mattan, are feared dead after an Alto Car bearing registration number JK03C- 6737 met with an accident and fell into a nallah in the Aru Valley of Pahalgam in Anantnag on Wednesday.

Sources said rescue teams, police personnel, and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched rescue and retrieval operations. The bodies of two occupants have been recovered so far.

Police are currently ascertaining whether there were any other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of persons travelling in the vehicle. (KF)

Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Achabal; Contraband Substance Recovered

Anantnag, June 17: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Anantnag Police achieved another success by apprehending two drug peddlers and recovering a substantial quantity of contraband during naka checking in the Achabal area.

A police party from Police Station Achabal, while conducting naka checking near Achabal Garden, intercepted two suspicious individuals identified as Faisal Ahmad Mir, son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir, resident of Jogigund Achabal, and Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, resident of Shelipora Achabal.

During their search, the police recovered approximately 734 grams of charas powder-like substance and 5 grams of charas tikki-like substance from their possession. The accused were immediately taken into custody and the contraband was seized in accordance with legal procedures.

In this connection, FIR No. 54/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Achabal, and investigation into the matter is underway.
