PSA should have not been invoked against MLA: Ghulam Hassan Mir

If necessary, actions should be taken under the relevant provisions of law so that the court may examine the matter and deliver justice.

Srinagar, September 8 : Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Monday expressed concern over the invoking of the Public Safety Act (PSA) against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik for allegedly using abusive language and making derogatory remarks against an administrative officer in Doda district. Pertinently, Malik was arrested today and jailed under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

In a statement issued, Ghulam Hassan Mir said, “If the concerned MLA had committed any offence, he should have been charged under the appropriate laws. There was no need to impose such a harsh law, under which he could be kept in jail without trial. Our legal system already has sufficient provisions to take action against any accused. However, every individual has the fundamental right to defend themselves in a court of law.”

He further stated, “Invoking the PSA against an MLA will convey a wrong message to the public.”

Mir urged the administration to withdraw the PSA imposed on the MLA and, if necessary, proceed against him under the relevant provisions of law so that the court may examine the matter and deliver justice..

AIIMS Awantipora delayed as location was chosen for political reasons, not suitability: Omar Abdullah

"Security concerns delayed DPR by over year, but cost issues were addressed, plan to start OPD services by March or April next year; People’s emotions over Hazratbal emblem were ignored, action was taken against them".

Srinagar, Sept 8 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the delay in the construction of AIIMS was primarily due to the location being selected on political grounds rather than based on its suitability for a hospital, resulting in security and logistical challenges.

Speaking to reporters in Pulwma, CM Omar said that the decision to build the AIIMS facility at the current site was made without assessing whether the area was appropriate for such a project. “This is not the fault of AIIMS. First of all, the site was decided on political grounds,” he said.

He said that earlier the project faced security concerns from the army, which delayed the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) by more than a year. “The DPR was ready later, but the entire project had to be reworked. Naturally, the cost increased, but all that was addressed,” he added.

Omar further said that the project work has now gained momentum, with the officials assuring that the hospital construction would be completed by September or October next year. “They intend to commission it in December and start OPD services by March or April next year,” he said. He also said that inpatient services are expected to start by November or December.

Referring to the recent controversy over the foundation stone placed at the Hazratbal shrine Omar said that people’s emotions were ignored, and instead, action was taken against them. “This is the first mistake that was made. No one apologized or explained the issue when people raised concerns. There was no need to build this stone. Even the Hazratbal Masjid Dargah, built by Shere Kashmir, did not have anyone’s name written on it.”..

Desecration of Emblem Not a Small Matter: Shah Faesal.

Srinagar Sept 8 : Senior bureaucrat Shah Faesal has reacted sharply to the visuals emerging from Hazratbal, where the national emblem was reportedly desecrated.

Taking to X, he posted, the act had deeply hurt even those across the country who genuinely stand for the empowerment of Kashmiris and count themselves among their true well-wishers.

He stressed that desecration of the national emblem was no small matter, calling it a direct blow to national pride.

Faesal also noted the wider implications of the incident, saying the mistake of a few has the potential to cast a shadow on an entire community.

His comments reflect growing concern that such incidents risk undoing the trust-building process in Kashmir and alienating voices that advocate for reconciliation and empowerment..

This is for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir that a sitting MLA has been slapped with the PSA.

Jammu Monday 8 Sept : The MLA from Doda, Mehraj Malik, has been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) by the district administration of Doda.

Official sources confirmed that Mehraj Malik has been booked under the PSA, and he has been arrested by the police and taken to an undisclosed location.

The MLA has been booked after 18 First Information Reports (FIRs) and 10 daily diaries were reported against him.

This is for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir that a sitting MLA has been slapped with the PSA. "The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker, Chief Minister and others have been informed about the slapping of PSA on Malik," said a source.

Without proper infrastructure, cricket in J&K won’t progress: Azhar ud din.

Baramulla, Sept 8 : Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin on Monday said that the development of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir is possible only when an elected body takes charge of the game in the region.

Speaking during his visit to Baramulla, Azharuddin said cricket cannot progress under ad-hoc arrangements. “You can’t run an association or administration every time. There should be elections. Only an elected body can ensure the game develops in the right direction,” he said.

He said that infrastructure is the biggest hurdle. “As long as you don’t have a proper ground, sponsors won’t come forward and people won’t take cricket seriously. Children play for some time but then give up due to lack of facilities. There is a lot of talent here, but talent needs guidance and proper coaching,” Azharuddin noted.

The former India captain highlighted the importance of modern stadiums with turf wickets, coaching camps, and competitive matches. He recalled that Baramulla once hosted international matches, including games against the West Indies and Australia, and said the region still has a huge fan following. “If a good match is organised here, 10 to 20 thousand spectators will definitely come to watch,” he said.

While thanking the Indian Army for developing cricket facilities in Baramulla, Azharuddin underlined that the game can only grow further if the region gets quality infrastructure that matches national standards.

Sending a message to young cricketers of Jammu and Kashmir, he said: “Play with passion. You have talent. If you play with dedication, you can not only reach semi-finals or finals at the domestic level but also make it to the national team.”..

40 schools closed due to floods, will reopen once situation improves: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, Sept 8 : Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday said that 40 schools remain closed in flood-affected areas and will reopen only when the situation improves and children’s health and education are not at risk.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said that schools were closed because of the floods, which affected their cleanliness and displaced people who have been shifted to these schools. “It’s been a while since the area has been opened. Forty schools have been shut down because of the floods, the cleanliness of the schools, and the people who are still affected by the floods, who have been shifted to these schools,” she said.

The minister added that the schools will remain closed until the situation gets better. “Until then, we will try to open these schools as soon as possible. We will also be satisfied that there will be no impact on the children’s health and no impact on the education of the children,” she said.

She also clarified that schools in other areas will remain open. “The rest of the schools will remain open,” she added..

Violence not the answer, but emblem misuse must be addressed: Tanvir Sadiq

"Govt must form House Committee to investigate Waqf Board irregularities".

Srinagar, Sept 8 : National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA ZadibalTanvir Sadiq on Monday said that the violence at the Hazratbal shrine was a spontaneous reaction to a violation of religious sentiments and demanded immediate action against those responsible, including the Vice-Chairperson of the Waqf Board.

He also urged the formation of a House Committee to investigate irregularities in allotments and tenders by the board.

Sneaking to reporters, Sadiq condemned the violence but said it was a response to the misuse of the state emblem at the shrine. “Violence is no one’s answer. We can fix it better, but because religious sentiments were broken, what people did was a spontaneous response,” he said.

He added that the misuse of the state emblem was a serious violation and action should be taken against those responsible. “The police also have to see that if the state emblem is misused, that is a big thing… whoever misuses the emblem, there should be action on it,” he said.

Sadiq called for accountability and said that the first step should be to take action against the Vice-Chairperson. “First there should be action against VC , and the rest of the FIRs, I think, it was better to talk to them, call them lovingly… intimidate them and give them reference of the police and PSA, that is wrong,” he said.

He further called on the Assembly’s House Committee to take up an inquiry into irregularities in allotments and tenders given without proper procedures. “We request the House Committee that as soon as possible, we have to remove all the charges that have been filed in the work board, the allotment that has been done without any e-tendering, against our people… we want an investigation on that, and all those involved should be punished,” he said.

Earlier, while referring to the contribution of people in building the Hazratbal Shrine, Sadiq recalled the efforts of Sheikh Abdullah in collecting donations. “The biggest institution, which is our Muslim Awaqaf Trust, which is now the Waqf Board, the hard work that Shere-e-Kashmir has done by going at everyone’s home, to make Dargah so good, that our devotees can come here from afar to pray, to do their religious duty… so their contribution is something we will never forget,” he said..

Russia Unveils Enteromix: First mRNA Cancer Vaccine Shows 100 percent Success in Trials

Moscow, Sept 7: Russia has developed Enteromix, the world’s first mRNA-based cancer vaccine, which has shown 100% efficacy and safety in clinical trials. The breakthrough has raised fresh hope for millions battling cancer worldwide.

The vaccine has already entered early clinical use at select oncology centers and now awaits final clearance from the Ministry of Health for mass rollout.

Built on the same mRNA technology used in COVID-19 vaccines, Enteromix is a next-generation therapy designed to train the immune system to precisely target and destroy cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. Unlike chemotherapy or radiation, no serious side effects were reported during trials.

The vaccine, developed by the National Medical Research Radiological Centre in collaboration with the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology (EIMB), is given through a simple intramuscular injection.

Experts say patients with lung, breast, colorectal, pancreatic cancers, hereditary cancer syndromes like BRCA1/2, chemotherapy-resistant tumors, and even immunocompromised individuals could benefit from the treatment.

With final approval pending, Enteromix is being hailed as a potential game-changer in global cancer care..

Hazratbal not built on anyone’s favour, board with emblem was misstep: Farooq Abdullah

Calls for respecting public sentiment, says Kashmiris value peace.

Srinagar, Sept 7 : National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said the decision to install a board carrying the National Emblem at the Hazratbal shrine was inappropriate and hurt the public’s religious sentiment.

Addressing reporters, Abdullah remarked that the shrine was constructed with the contributions of local people, including his father Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, and not through the generosity of any government.

He recalled how his father went door to door seeking donations for the shrine, narrating an incident in which a poor woman offered her only utensil as a contribution. Sheikh Abdullah initially refused to accept it, but the woman insisted it was for the Prophet (PBUH) and not for him personally. “This shows the sacrifices people made for Hazratbal,” he said.

According to Abdullah, the shrine belongs to the community and has always stood as a symbol of devotion built with people’s own resources. “Even my father never allowed a board with his name to be fixed there. This time, when a board was placed, people rejected it because they considered it wrong,” he said.

He urged that the episode be taken as a lesson, underlining that Kashmiris want to live in peace and harmony, and such actions should not be repeated in the future..

MHA team reaches Kashmir to review flood, landslide losses.

Srinagar, Sept 7 : An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday arrived in Kashmir to assess the destruction caused by recent floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

Officials told, that the delegation will hold discussions with the local administration and carry out on-ground inspections in several affected districts. The team is tasked with evaluating the extent of losses, reviewing relief and rescue efforts, and preparing a detailed report for the Centre, they said.

The visit follows weeks of heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir that led to widespread damage to homes, farmland, and infrastructure.

Since early August, more than 150 people have died in rain-related incidents, including pilgrims caught in flash floods. Rescue and restoration work is still under way in many parts of the Valley.

Earlier this month, the MHA had set up IMCTs for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, all of which witnessed severe weather events.

Each team is headed by a Joint Secretary-level officer from the MHA or the National Disaster Management Authority, with experts from multiple ministries including agriculture, rural development, power, road transport, Jal Shakti, and expenditure.

Officials said that after visiting the Valley, the team will submit its findings to the central government.

The assessment will serve as the basis for additional financial aid and long-term recovery measures..

Nanotechnology key for disaster early warning systems: LG Sinha

Srinagar, Sep 07 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated the five-day International Conference on Nanotechnology for Better Living at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, bringing together leading scientists, researchers, and industry experts from across the globe.

Addressing the inaugural session, the Lt Governor said nanotechnology had emerged as a transformative force across multiple sectors, ranging from water purification and energy restoration to defense and healthcare.

He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Himalayan region, has been witnessing severe climatic changes in recent years, which makes it imperative to develop nano-based early warning systems for floods, soil erosion, and other natural calamities.

“Nanotechnology is no longer confined to laboratories. It has entered almost every industry and is being used to solve critical challenges. In our region, where the threat of climate-induced disasters is high, nano-based systems can play a vital role in resilience and preparedness,” the Lt Governor said.

Highlighting government initiatives, Sinha said research and development in nanotechnology had received a major boost under the Prime Minister’s leadership, enabling Indian scientists and institutions to push the boundaries of innovation. He urged private players to invest in developing defense equipment using nanotechnology, pointing to its demonstrated success during Operation Sindoor.

On the healthcare front, the Lt Governor called for greater focus on nanotechnology-driven diagnosis and treatment, which he said had the potential to revolutionize patient care and improve outcomes. “We must channel this technology for the betterment of humanity,” he added.

The conference, which was first introduced at the University of Kashmir in 2016, will run for five days. It aims to serve as a platform for exchange of ideas, collaborations, and showcasing of recent advancements in nanoscience. Participants will deliberate on applications in clean energy, water solutions, defense, agriculture, and medicine.

University officials said the event underscores Kashmir’s growing role as a hub for academic and scientific dialogue..
