Jammu & Kashmir Water Sports Association Marks 78th International Olympic Day with Marathon & Run for Peace at Pokhribal
Srinagar, June 23, 2025 — On the momentous occasion of the 78th International Olympic Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association successfully hosted a Canoe Marathon and Run for Peace at the scenic Pokhribal Water Sports Club. This event was a vibrant celebration of the Olympic spirit—honoring unity, endurance, and sportsmanship—while promoting the immense potential of water sports in the Union Territory.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of athletes and water sports enthusiasts from across the region, delivering a high-energy and captivating display of skill, speed, and determination. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as participants demonstrated the very essence of Olympism, inspiring the youth and reinforcing the values of teamwork and discipline.
The Association expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Bilquis Mir, an iconic figure in Indian water sports, for her relentless support and inspiring mentorship to budding athletes. Ms. Mir recently made history as the first Indian woman to be appointed as a jury member at the Olympic Games, a proud moment for the nation and a beacon of inspiration for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
