>>> Woman hit by stray bullet at her house near army camp in Rajouri || A young woman was injured last evening after being hit by a stray bullet while she was cooking food in front of her house located near an army camp at Sawni village of Rajouri district. The woman, whom police identified as Sajeena Begum, wife of Mohammad Kabir, a resident of Sawni, was hit by a stray bullet fired during practice at the nearby army camp, said an official. He said that the woman felt pain while cooking food at a chullah in her house last evening, following which she went to a local chemist shop. “She had suffered a wound in her left shoulder. The chemist asked her to rush to the District Hospital Rajouri. During treatment, the doctors there found a bullet inside the wound,” said a senior police officer. He said police have started an investigation into the matter. “The woman is completely stable and her injury is minor with wound only on superficial skin,” said a doctor. QNN...

>>> Kashmir IGP Refuses Speaking To Handwara Minor Girl, Alleges Human Rights Group || Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS), a Srinagar based Human Rights defender group, Wednesday said that since last three days, it has been approaching the Inspector General (IG) of J&K Police – Kashmir range – Syed Javed Mujtaba Gillani, for a meeting in connection with the illegal detention of Handwara minor girl and her family. “Yesterday evening the Handwara minor girl spoke to JKCCS team on phone. She and her family informed that against their will the police have shifted them to a stranger’s house 15 kms away from the Handwara town. After detailed discussion JKCCS proposed her to call the IGP Kashmir and Chairperson of the State Commission for Women, Nayeema Mehjoor, directly to inform them about her ordeal in the illegal police detention, her demand for free movement and an immediate access to her lawyers,” JKCCCS said in a statement this afternoon. “The minor girl called the IG several times but only once he picked up the phone. After she identified herself, the IG cancelled the call. JKCCS team called DIG Ghulam Hassan Bhat and requested him to inform the IG that the minor girl wants to talk to him urgently. We were assured that the IG will speak to the girl,” the statement claimed. “Immediately after that the police personnel went inside the house where the girl is detained and threatened her to not call the IGP Kashmir,” the statement alleged. “The minor girl was able to speak to Nayeema Mehjoor and gave her detailed statement and requested her to facilitate her conversation with IGP Javed Geelani. The child was forced to give a false testimony exonerating her molesters, the testimony was circulated over YouTube, revealing her identity to the entire world. Her mother was not allowed to speak to the Press about the issue. She continues to be in illegal detention, without any access to rights groups or child support organisation,” a statement issued by AISA said this forenoon. Her access to her family and legal team has not only been prevented but also controlled by the state authorities. “The continued detention of the minor girl and her family members violates their civil liberty and basic rights too. The continued police detention also means a threat to her physical and psychological wellbeing,” the statement said. “At present the minor girl and her family members are in police detention at an undisclosed location. >>> Witnesses indict army, police for Handwara killings || The eye-witness accounts of the killings in Kupwara district have revealed that both police and army indulged in firing resulting in death of five civilians. As per the witness accounts, cricketer Nayeem Qadir Bhat was allegedly fired upon by an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, who resides in Mawar Nowgam, while he was taking vegetables home. A senior official said during the statement to the district administration, Nayeem’s family stated that he was heading home from the orchard when at around 2:15 pm youth protested against alleged molestation bid of a girl by an army man inside a lavatory. After the protests, the youth poured on the streets and police was called in to quell the protests and they resorted to firing and lathi-charge to disperse the mob. The official said Nayeem’s uncle, Ali Mohammad Dar was also in the market and is a key witness to the incident. In a statement to the District Magistrate he had revealed that the police fired on the mob. Nayeem was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Officials said Nayeem’s family had refused to carry out his last rites and had kept the body in the police station and it was only after they were assured that action will be initiated in the case and the bunker will be removed from the place that they had pacified. Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Rajeev Ranjan, had assured that action will be taken in the matter at the earliest. According to an official, it has also been revealed that a road opening party (ROP) of army had fired on a woman, Raja Begum, while she was tending at the fields some 4 kilometres from the main market. This has happened after incidents of stone pelting and resultant firing by the armed forces personnel from the bunker had happened at the market. Official sources said as the youth tried to attack the army bunker in the market, army men opened fire in which another youth, Iqbal Farooq Pir, who was working at a photostat shop, died on spot after being hit by bullet in the head. SP Handwara, Ghulam Geelani Wani, said that the FIR has been filed in the case and preliminary investigation has revealed that the army fired on the protestors from the bunker.
