Saudi threatens military action if Qatar deploys anti-aircraft missiles !!!

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has threatened to take military action if Qatar installs a Russian air defence system, France’s Le Monde newspaper reported. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates severed diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar last year, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism, which it denies.

Qatar and Russia signed an agreement on military and technical cooperation last year. Qatar’s ambassador to Russia was quoted as saying in January that it was in talks to buy the Russian S-400 missile air defence systems. Le Monde said that Saudi King Salman had written a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, expressing his profound concern over negotiations between Doha and Moscow and the possibility that Qatar could deploy the missiles.

Blast in Pakistan Parachinar vegetable Market, kills 25 and 50 more Injured !!!

PESHAWAR: A powerful explosion ripped through a crowded vegetable market in minority Shias dominated Parachinar in northwest Pakistan's restive Kurram tribal agency, killing at least 25 people and injuring 50 others.
The blast - claimed by Tehrik-i-Taliban - occurred at the market inside Eidgah Bazaar in Parachinar, the administrative headquarters of the agency near the Afghan border.
Citing the political administration in Kurram agency, hospital reports said that at least 25 people were killed in the blast.
However, in a BRIEF statement the military said that 20 people have been killed in the attack.
Initial report suggests that explosives kept in a vegetable crate exploded during auction of the vegetables, officials said.
The injured were shifted to Parachinar headquarters hospital where there is a shortage of doctors and medical facilities. At least 10 patients were said to be in critical condition.
A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the improvised explosive device (IED) blast took place at 08:50 AM in the vegetable market.
"Army and FC Quick Response officials have reached the blast site and cordoned off the area. Army helicopters have been flown in for medical evacuation of the injured," it said.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan condemned the attack and ordered a detailed report regarding the incident.
Muttahida Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, a Shia political organisation, announced three days of mourning over the blast.
According to officials, the death toll is expected to rise as the market was crowded due to early morning rush.
Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Umer Khurasani has claimed responsibility for the blast. He said the blast was to avenge the killing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi chief Asif Chotu.

Russian ambassador Andrey Karlov shot dead in Turkey !!!

Andrey Karlov was speaking at a photo exhibition event in the capital when he was shot by a Turkish off-duty policeman.

The Russian ambassador to Turkey was shot and killed Monday at an art exhibition in Ankara by a gunman who shouted Islamic slogans, witnesses said.
Andrei Karlov was shot multiple times while making a speech at the opening of the exhibition entitled Russia through the Eyes of Turks. Three other people were wounded in the attack, Turkish authorities said. Police shot and killed the gunman, identified as 22-year-old police officer Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova described the attack as an "act of terrorism."
“This is a tragic day in the history of Russian diplomacy," Zahharova said in announcing Karlov's death.

The attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is great." He also shouted other phrases, mostly in Turkish, Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News reported: “Don’t forget Aleppo! Don’t forget Syria! As long as our brothers are not safe, you will not enjoy safety. ... Whoever has a share in this oppression will pay for it one-by-one. ... Only death will take me away from here..."

Car bomb attack kills 13 soldiers in Turkey and wounded 55 !!!

Istanbul: A car bomb blast killed 13 Turkish troops and wounded 55 persons, most of them military personnel, in the central Anatolian province of Kayseri this morning, according to official figures.

The blast occurred as a bus carrying soldiers was passing by at a bus stop at the campus of Erciyes University on Saturday.

In a statement, the Turkish armed forces said the car bomb went off at 8:45 am and targeted on-leave military personnel from the Kayseri Commando Brigade.

The army said 48 troops were wounded and said that civilian citizens may have also been hurt in the "treacherous act."
Speaking in Kayseri shortly after the blast, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said 55 people had been wounded in total and that six were in critical condition. "We are determined in our fight against terrorism," the minister said.

Speaking alongside him at a joint press conference, Turkish Chief of Staff Hulusi Akar vowed to continue the "fight against terrorists inside and outside the country" until "every last terrorist is neutralized." There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Gunmen kill 5 female Afghan airport staff in Kandahar !!!

KANDAHAR (Afghanistan): Five female Afghan guards working in the airport in southern Kandahar were killed by unknown gunmen as they were on their way to work, security officials said on Saturday, the latest in a string of attacks against women in Afghanistan.
From bomb attacks to targeted or honour killings or domestic abuses, Afghan women have borne the brunt of the 15 years of conflicts during the Taliban-led insurgency as security has deteriorated and violence has increased in most parts of the country.
Samim Khpulwak, spokesman for the governor of Kandahar, said the five women were in charge of searching female travelers at the Kandahar airport, and had been hired by a private security company.
"Two gunmen on motorbike followed their van and opened fire on them, killing the five and their driver this morning, said Samim.

No group has claimed responsibility for Saturday's attack but the Taliban insurgents waging an insurgency to topple the foreign-backed government of President Ashraf Ghani oppose women working outside their homes.
Although Afghan women had made hard-fought rights gains in education and work since the collapse of austere Taliban regime in 2001, there are growing fears that these could reverse with the deterioration of security and increase in violence.

Aleppo liberation, major milestone in Syria war: Analyst !!!

Syrian forces are in full control of the northern city of Aleppo, nearly three weeks after Damascus and its allies launched a major offensive to recapture the militant-held part of the city. The residents of Aleppo have taken to the streets to celebrate the city’s full liberation from militants.

A former US Senate foreign policy analyst, as well as Michael Lane, founder of American Institute for Foreign Policy, to discuss the issue.

Jatras believes the liberation of Aleppo by Syrian forces is a “major milestone” in the strategic sorting out of the war in Syria.

The West and its regional allies, he said, continue with their regime change policy in Syria, adding they have to come to terms with the fact that President Bashar al-Assad is not going to go.

Those countries may want to try to preserve the terrorist groups in Syria in order to send them into the battle somewhere else, he added.

Jatras further said the United States has failed to separate the so-called moderate fighters from the terrorists in Syria because there are not any real moderate militants in the country.

The United States meanwhile does not have much influence over the terrorist groups in Syria, he said, predicting that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey will keep sending weapons to them.

According to the analyst, there is going to be a “different game plan” when US President-elect Donald Trump takes office because he has made it clear that he wants to work with the Russians on what he considers to be a common enemy in the terrorists.

“If Trump is serious about following through with reaching some sort of a deal with the Russians to wrap this war up at some point, he is going to have a very stern talk with the people in Riyadh, in Doha and Ankara.”

The other panelist , Michael Lane, said the liberation of Aleppo is a double-edged sword, explaining that there are a certain segment of people who do feel liberated and there are others who want to get out of the city.

The terrorist groups, he said, are certainly making plans to continue the fight in Syria’s countryside but Syrian government forces can deal with them on a much different basis than they had to when they came to the urban warfare of retaking the city of Aleppo.

The analyst said under the presidency of Donald Trump, there is likely to be a “dramatic change” vis-à-vis Middle East policy and a lot more cooperation with Russia in the fight against terrorism.
