Focus on Governance

Recently Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir reviewed meetings on Mission YUVA and the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan here.

He underscores Jammu and Kashmir’s renewed focus on youth empowerment and public health and said that his administration has completely focused on such issues.

Both these initiatives reflect a governance model driven by accountability, convergence, and measurable outcomes in Jammu and Kashmir

Under Mission YUVA, the directive to ensure disbursal of ₹1,000 crore in loans this fiscal year is a strong push toward fostering entrepreneurship and self-employment in Jammu and Kashmir.

By integrating schemes like PMEGP, HADP, and JKRLM with Mission YUVA, the J&K administration aims to build a unified ecosystem for livelihood generation especially among the youth.

The emphasis on strengthening block-level mechanisms, through YUVA Doots, Block Handholding Desks, and coordination with banks, can translate policy intent into real economic opportunities for youth if implemented with urgency and transparency by the current dispensation.

Review of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan J&K administration calls for early detection, patient monitoring, and personal accountability among healthcare professionals in Jammu and Kashmir adds a human touch to the fight against tuberculosis.

BJP will secure all 4 seats in Rajya Sabha elections: LoP Sharma

Srinagar, Oct 24: Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma on Friday said that the party will secure all the four seats in Rajya Sabha elections.

Terming Congress as 'puppet of NC', Sharma said that it can never happen that the party will not support NC. "Congress has been following Dr Farooq Abdullah. There is no value of Tariq Karra's letters to the Congress high command as the leadership value words of the Sheikh family," he said.

He said that the party will bag all four seats in Rajya Sabha elections and that other parties have joined hands against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as they fear getting exposed here—(KNO)

Caste System

The recent Allahabad High Court’s directive to remove caste references from police records marks a progressive and long-overdue step toward equality and it has its impact on the UT of Jammu and Kashmir also.

In Jammu and Kashmir, where caste is still recorded in FIRs and other documents, legal and police experts agree that the practice is discriminatory and must end in light of the Allahabad High Court’s decision.

Many legal experts have traced this to the British era, when caste was used as a tool to divide and control society in the country. Continuing this colonial legacy only perpetuates stigma and bias and ceasing such practices in Jammu and Kashmir will be a welcome step.

The J & K government is seriously thinking to change such mindsets and outdated legacies of the past.

Modern identification systems like Aadhaar and voter IDs make caste references unnecessary and should be removed in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir also.

Technology can ensure accurate and fair identification without prejudice.

The Allahabad High Court’s decision offers a crucial opportunity for reform in Jammu and Kashmir. It is time for all States and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, to erase caste from official records and move toward a more inclusive and just administrative framework for its people.
