SSP Baramulla Orders Enquiry Into Alleged Assault on Advocate, Assures Fair and Transparent Investigation
Baramulla, June 12, CNS: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla has ordered a detailed enquiry into the alleged assault and misconduct involving an advocate and police personnel at Police Station Kunzer, assuring a transparent, impartial and fair investigation into the matter.
According to an official statement issued by District Police Baramulla, the incident has its origins in proceedings initiated on June 10 at Dhobiwan village, where a police party from Police Station Kunzer was executing a status quo order issued by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Tangmarg and undertaking legal and preventive action in accordance with law.
Subsequently, an altercation reportedly took place inside Police Station Kunzer involving an advocate and police personnel, leading to allegations regarding the conduct of police officials during the incident.
Taking serious note of the concerns raised, SSP Baramulla has directed a comprehensive enquiry into the entire sequence of events. The enquiry has been entrusted to a Gazetted Officer to ensure transparency, fairness and objectivity.
The enquiry will examine all aspects of the incident, including the conduct of all individuals involved, the circumstances that led to the registration of the case and allegations relating to misconduct or use of force. Statements of all concerned persons will be recorded and available evidence thoroughly examined.
District Police Baramulla reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and respect for all stakeholders, including members of the legal fraternity. The police assured that if any lapse, misconduct or deviation from established procedures by any police personnel is established during the enquiry, appropriate legal and departmental action will be taken and accountability ensured in accordance with law.
The statement further clarified that the investigation into the registered case and the departmental enquiry will proceed independently on their respective merits.
