Kulgam Police Destroys Large-Scale Wild Cannabis Growth in Joint Operation

September 13: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs, Kulgam Police, in close coordination with the Excise and Revenue Departments, launched a massive anti-narcotics drive across multiple areas of the district. The operation focused on the destruction of wild cannabis (Bhang) that had grown extensively along the banks of Nallahs and in adjoining fields at Harnag, Wanpoh, Khandiphari, Qaimoh, Badderpora, Thokerpora, Maqdampora, and Devsar.

During the drive, special teams comprising officers and field staff from Police, Excise, and Revenue Departments conducted extensive searches and cleared large patches of land where wild cannabis had proliferated. The operation was carried out methodically, ensuring that both accessible and remote stretches of cannabis growth were destroyed on the spot.

This initiative forms a crucial part of Kulgam Police’s comprehensive strategy to curb the cultivation, availability, and spread of narcotic substances and to dismantle the drug ecosystem from its roots. By targeting both illicit cultivation and natural proliferation of narcotic plants, police aim to cut off the supply chain at its very source.

Importantly, the drive witnessed active participation from members of local civil society, including community elders and youth volunteers, who joined hands with the authorities to support the cause. Their involvement not only strengthened the enforcement effort but also underscored the growing sense of social responsibility and public awareness in the fight against drug abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kulgam Shri Sahil Sarangal-IPS said: “Kulgam Police is committed to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against narcotics. Our priority is to eliminate the drug menace from society by dismantling its ecosystem and cutting it off at the roots. We urge people to continue extending their cooperation and to play an active role in safeguarding our youth from the dangers of drug addiction.”

Kulgam Police has reaffirmed that such operations will continue in the coming days, with a renewed focus on enforcement, community participation, and awareness campaigns aimed at achieving a drug-free society.

👉 Kulgam Police appeals to the general public to share any information regarding illicit cultivation, possession, or trade of narcotic substances. Information can be provided at the nearest Police Station or through established helpline numbers. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
