At JLNM Hospital, Srinagar, a 50-year-old male patient โ€” a chronic smoker with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hypertension โ€” successfully underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis with empyema of the gallbladder (pus in the gallbladder) under Thoracic Segmental Spinal Anaesthesia (TSSA).

The surgery, completed safely within two hours, marks a significant milestone in the hospitalโ€™s pursuit of innovation in regional anaesthesia, particularly for high-risk surgical candidates. The successful conduct of this complex procedure under TSSA highlights the potential of regional anaesthesia in minimizing perioperative complications, optimizing postoperative recovery, and enhancing patient safety.
