Anantnag Police Arrests Absconder Wanted in NDPS Case

Anantnag, Sept 17: In its continued drive against absconders and wanted persons, Anantnag Police arrested an absconder involved in an NDPS case registered in Udhampur.

A police party from Police Station Dooru, acting on specific information, apprehended Abdul Rashid Sood S/o Gh. Nabi R/o Garnia, Udhampur, who was evading arrest in connection with FIR No. 38/2024 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Rambhal, Udhampur.

A warrant under Section 299 Cr.P.C. had been issued against him by the Court of District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur, in 2025.

The accused has been arrested and further legal proceedings are being undertaken in accordance with law. The arrest reflects Anantnag Police's continued efforts to trace and apprehend absconders and wanted persons, irrespective of jurisdiction.

Anantnag Police Arrests Two More Drug Peddlers, Charas Recovered

Anantnag, Sept 17: Continuing its war against the drug menace, Anantnag Police arrested two persons during a naka/checking operation at Dugga Petrol Pump, Naibasti Khanabal.

A police party from Police Station Anantnag intercepted two persons, identified as Adil Ahmad Shah S/o Bashir Ahmad Shah R/o Naibasti, A/P BED College Donichak Anzalla, and Adil Ahmad Wani S/o Mohd Iqbal Wani R/o Krangsoo, Mattan Mohalla Khandipora.

During the search, a total of 10.31 grams of charas was recovered from their possession.

In this regard, FIR No. 314/2026 under Sections 8/20-29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and investigation has been set into motion.

Anantnag Police reiterates its commitment to intensifying the crackdown against drug trafficking and taking strict legal action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.

Traffic Police Launch Drive Against Illegal Parking and Traffic Violations in Anantnag

Anantnag, Sept 16 (KF): DySP Traffic Tariq Ahmad Tak and DTI Anantnag Javaid Moori, along with the Traffic Police team, launched a special drive in Anantnag town against illegal parking and violations of traffic rules.

During the drive, action was taken against electric auto-rickshaw drivers, scooter riders without helmets, and drivers involved in illegal entry from Mehandi Kadal to Ashajipora in Anantnag. Several challans were issued to violators during the drive.

DySP Traffic Tariq Ahmad Tak said that violations of traffic rules would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He added that the special drive would continue. (KF)

District Anantnag Wushu Championship 2026 Concludes at Sports Stadium

Anantnag, Sept 16 (KF): The three-day District Anantnag Wushu Championship 2026 concluded today at Sports Stadium Anantnag, showcasing young martial arts talent from across the district.

DPS School emerged as the champions and lifted the trophy, while Saint Looks School finished as the runners-up.

Er. Hilal Shah graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest and appreciated the young athletes for their dedication, hard work and sportsmanship.

The championship, held from September 14 to 16, provided a platform for budding Wushu athletes from across the district to demonstrate their skills and competitive spirit. (KF)

Lady Drug Peddler including two others arrested by Kulgam police, Recover 190.5 Grams of He**in-Like Substance

Kulgam, Sept 16: Continuing its intensified campaign against drug trafficking, Kulgam Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a lady drug peddler, in two separate actions and recovered a total of 190.5 grams of heroin-like substance.

In the first action, during dynamic naka checking at Upper Market Qazigund near Town Hall, a woman found roaming under suspicious circumstances was apprehended by the police party. During the search of her bag, 20.5 grams of He**in-like substance, packed in a black polythene envelope, was recovered.

The woman has been identified identity as Aqsa Bashir D/O Bashir Ahmad Dar, R/O Hardpora Akinpora, Anantnag. Accordingly, FIR No. 221/2026 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation taken up.

In another action, a dynamic naka was established near the North Portal of Navyug Tunnel, where the naka party of PP Navyug Tunnel intercepted a silver-coloured Swift Dzire bearing registration No. JK09E-9019.

During checking, 170 grams of He**in was recovered from the possession of the two occupants, namely Imran Mir S/O Mohd Akram Mir and Muhbat Dar S/O Maqsood Ahmed Dar, both residents of Karnah, Kupwara.

Both were arrested and FIR No. 222/2026 under Sections 8/21/29 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund. Investigation has been taken up to establish the source of the contraband and identify other persons involved.

SSP Kulgam, stated that Kulgam Police will continue its sustained drive against drug trafficking and take stringent legal action against those involved. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly share information regarding drug trafficking with Police.The identity of informants will be kept confidential.

Kashmir Construction Sponsors Cricket Team and Tournament in Bijbehara

Anantnag Sept 15: Kashmir Construction owner Mr. Suhail Ahmad on Tuesday sponsored a cricket team as well as a cricket tournament at Jabli-Pora, Bijbehara, Anantnag, in an initiative aimed at encouraging young cricketers and promoting sports in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Cricket analyst Lal Mohamad Ganie, said cricket is becoming increasingly expensive for young players, with families having to manage both education expenses and cricket fees. He said sponsors play an important role in keeping the sport accessible to children and providing them with opportunities to showcase their talent.

He appreciated Mr. Suhail Ahmad and Kashmir Construction for coming forward to support cricket and said such initiatives can help encourage youngsters to stay away from drugs and focus on sports and other positive activities.

Ganie also praised Kashmir Construction for providing a wide range of quality construction materials, including cement, aggregates, TMT steel and other essential products, at genuine prices.

The initiative by Kashmir Construction and its owner Mr. Suhail was appreciated by locals and cricket enthusiasts, who hailed the effort to support young sporting talent.
