Motor Vehicles Department Conducts Enforcement Drive in Budgam, Recommends Suspension of 18 Driving Licences
Budgam, May 12 (KF): The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Enforcement Squad, headed by Mubashir Jan, carried out a comprehensive enforcement and inspection drive across Budgam district in coordination with ARTO Budgam to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with transport regulations.
During the drive, officials conducted technical inspections of commercial and passenger vehicles, checked tempo travellers operating on hill roads, inspected All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), verified school buses for fitness and safety compliance, and examined tippers for overloading and mechanical safety violations. Authorities also inspected Tavera vehicles operating as public transport vehicles.
According to the report, 18 driving licences were recommended for suspension, five vehicles were seized, and challans amounting to ₹1.65 lakh are expected to be imposed.
Officials stated that the drive aimed to reduce road accidents and traffic violations, enforce vehicle fitness and permit conditions, ensure the safety of school children through strict bus inspections, and prevent overloading and unsafe operations on hilly roads.
During inspections, the enforcement squad observed several violations, including improper documentation, mechanical deficiencies, permit irregularities, unsafe passenger carriage practices, defective lighting systems, and other safety violations in commercial passenger vehicles. Special focus was laid on vehicles operating in hilly terrain due to the increased risks associated with overspeeding, overloading, and poor vehicle maintenance.
The department reiterated its commitment towards transparent enforcement, public safety, and safer transport systems across Jammu and Kashmir, urging transport operators and vehicle owners to maintain proper documentation and vehicle fitness to avoid legal action during future inspections. (KF)
