Journalist Irfan Ali suffers a tragic loss

We are deeply saddened to share that Nissar Ahmad Pahloo, father of journalist Irfan Ali, passed away yesterday at 5:30 pm after a brief illness.

The entire team at Srinagar Samachar and News 11 Hind stands with Irfan Ali and his family in this hour of grief. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace, and may Allah grant the family strength and patience to bear this profound loss. Ameen.

J&K Water Sports Summer Camp Concludes with BLS Training
Srinagar, July 19: The J&K Water Sports, Kayaking & Canoeing Association, along with the J&K Rowing & Sculling Association, concluded its 15-day Summer Coaching Camp (July 4–19) at Pokhribal Water Sports Club, Srinagar, training young athletes in swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and rowing.
SSP Traffic Srinagar, Aijaz Ahmad, was Chief Guest at the closing ceremony, praising the athletes' dedication and urging everyone to learn swimming for safety and fitness, while pledging J&K Police's continued support.
A key highlight was a Basic Life Support session by Dr. Burhan Bazaz (President, J&K Rowing & Sculling Association), who demonstrated CPR, first aid, and emergency response techniques. He also credited Bilquis Mir for her role in developing water sports in the region.
Vice President Dr. Imran also addressed and encouraged the athletes. Certificates were distributed to all participants, and Dr. Rafiq Din thanked organizers, coaches, and volunteers. Parents praised the camp for building their children's confidence, discipline, and water safety skills.

Srinagar, July 15, 2026: The Jammu & Kashmir Transport Commissioner personally led a comprehensive MVD enforcement drive and traffic assessment along the busy Batamaloo–Bemina corridor.
During the operation, public service vehicles were rigorously inspected for compliance with road safety norms, resulting in the on-the-spot seizure of a mini-bus found in violation.
Going beyond enforcement, the Commissioner directed a detailed technical study of key intersections to ease congestion, improve pedestrian safety, and upgrade public transit infrastructure.
Reaffirming the department's commitment to public welfare, he stressed that these measures are aimed at building a disciplined, safe, and reliable transport ecosystem across the UT.

📍Two-Day Workshop on Traditional & Folk Art Forms of Kashmir Concludes in Srinagar
The Lotus Cultural Group, in collaboration with Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Gulab Bagh, Srinagar, successfully organized a two-day training workshop on "Traditional and Folk Art Forms of Kashmir" on July 1–2.
The program was financially supported by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, under its Scheme for Financial Support to Cultural Institutions (2023–24). The workshop focused on reviving traditional art forms including Rouf Dance, Wanvun, Ladishah, and folk drama, and concluded with a performance by the participants.
Ms. Oscia Jabeen, Principal of the host school, attended as chief guest and addressed the gathering. Calling the initiative "the need of the hour," she commended the effort and thanked the Lotus Cultural Group on behalf of the school for organizing such a meaningful program, expressing hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future.
On the occasion, the President of the Lotus Cultural Group assured the school administration of continued collaboration on future cultural programs.
The event concluded on a successful note, with participants and attendees appreciating the effort to preserve and promote Kashmir's rich folk heritage.

“Heart to Heart – Dil Se Dil Tak” conference held in Srinagar, promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits.

Srinagar, June 24: JK United People's Alliance organized the “Heart to Heart – Dil Se Dil Tak” conference at Amar Singh Club, Srinagar, as part of its civil society initiative aimed at promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and collective understanding among different communities.

The conference brought together members of civil society, religious leaders, social activists, and community representatives to discuss issues related to interfaith harmony, social cohesion, and regional understanding.
Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasized the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in strengthening peace and unity in Jammu and Kashmir. The discussions focused on removing inter-regional misunderstandings, building trust among communities, and encouraging greater social responsibility.

A significant part of the deliberations centered on the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits and the role of the Muslim majority and civil society in facilitating reconciliation and fostering an atmosphere of trust and coexistence.

Participants also discussed the collective responsibility of religious scholars, civil society members, parents, teachers, and government institutions in addressing the growing menace of drug abuse and drug trafficking in society.

The organizers stated that the “Heart to Heart – Dil Se Dil Tak” initiative aims to create a platform for meaningful engagement, promoting peace, understanding, and unity among all sections of society.

Speaking on behalf of the JK United People's Alliance, Syed Salim Geelani said that such initiatives are essential to bridge differences and strengthen social harmony, adding that dialogue and reconciliation remain key to building a peaceful and prosperous future for Jammu and Kashmir.
