Kulgam, June 15: As part of heightened security arrangements ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Kulgam Police carried out a district-wide inspection of chemical and fertilizer shops, scrap dealers, and conducted tenant verification drives to prevent the misuse of regulated materials and ensure strict adherence to safety norms, an official said.

He said, the inspection drive was conducted by police teams across the district under the supervision of SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Chowdhury. In Devsar, the inspections were led by SHO Devsar, Masood-ul-Hassan, along with his team.

During the inspections, police officials examined stock registers, sales records, licenses, storage facilities, and compliance with prescribed safety protocols. Scrap dealers were also inspected, while tenant verification was undertaken as part of preventive security measures, he added.

Police officials stated that similar inspection drives will continue across the district to strengthen security arrangements, enhance accountability, and ensure a safe and peaceful atmosphere ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.

Miscreants Cut Down 500 High-Density Apple Plants Worth Over 25 Lakh in Kulgam; FIR Registered

Kulgam, June 14: In a shocking incident of vandalism, unidentified miscreants allegedly cut down around 500 high-density apple plants in Hatipora area of Behibagh in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, causing losses estimated at more than ₹25 lakh.

Official sources said that the affected orchard belonged to a local grower who had invested heavily in establishing the high-density apple plantation, considered a modern and high-yield horticulture practice aimed at boosting fruit production in the district.

The incident came to light after the orchard owner discovered that a large number of apple plants had been deliberately damaged and uprooted by unknown persons. The act has triggered anger and concern among local residents and the horticulture community, who termed it a serious blow to the livelihood of the orchard owner.

Meanwhile, locals have urged the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident and provide necessary assistance to the affected orchard owner, who has suffered substantial financial losses due to the destruction of the plantation.
