Aabid Nabi Calls for Immediate Extension of Power Amnesty Scheme to Ease Hardship in North Kashmir
Kupwara, March 29:- The Representative to the Member of Parliament from Baramulla Aabid Nabi, has urged the administration to immediately extend the Power Amnesty Scheme, citing mounting hardships faced by households across North Kashmir.
In an official statement, he highlighted that a significant number of families are grappling with financial strain due to escalating living costs, unemployment and persistent utility-related challenges. He noted that recent disconnections and stringent recovery measures have further aggravated the situation, placing additional pressure on already vulnerable households.
He emphasized that the amnesty scheme had served as a crucial relief mechanism, enabling consumers to settle outstanding dues without incurring heavy penalties. However, its limited duration has prevented many deserving families from availing its benefits.
“The extension of the Power Amnesty Scheme is not merely a financial consideration, but a humanitarian imperative,” he stated. “Consumers require adequate time and institutional support to regularize their dues without the fear of disconnection, particularly under prevailing circumstances.”
He also appealed to the concerned authorities to adopt a more people-centric approach and ensure uninterrupted power supply, especially during a period when essential services remain under considerable strain.
Furthermore, he called for the establishment of a transparent and flexible framework to address billing-related concerns and urged the administration to refrain from adopting coercive measures against consumers facing genuine financial constraints.
Expressing optimism, he hoped that the government would take prompt action to extend the scheme and provide much-needed relief to thousands of affected families across regions including Kupwara.
