Lieutenant Governor inaugurates new Centre of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital in Srinagar

Srinagar, September 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the new Centre of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital at Qamarwari in Srinagar.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon the hospital and medical fraternity for ensuring accessible and affordable care for all and connecting the specialists with patients in rural and far-flung areas of J&K.
“Over the past decade, modern technologies have fundamentally transformed the eye care field and today it is offering faster and more accurate diagnoses with precise treatments.  The new technologies have also increased access to care in health sector and personalized treatment.
AI-powered systems have enabled doctors to detect early signs of disease and eye problems. Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre and other hospitals must take advantage of new technologies and provide the same treatment to the people of J&K, which is available to the citizens in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke on the landmark transformation of Jammu Kashmir's healthcare sector over the past few years.
“Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we are ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare. The rapid expansion of both Government and Private healthcare infrastructure has also ensured a healthy and prosperous future for every citizen of Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre and other hospitals to organise free eye check-up camps in different parts of J&K, especially in rural and border areas, with spirit of selfless service. He said, for greater reach, people should be served from time to time through telemedicine, virtual consultations and digital examinations.

PIB Srinagar organizes Medical Camp for Media Fraternity in collaboration with Paras Health

Srinagar: Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar today organised a special medical camp for the media fraternity in collaboration with Paras Health as part of the ongoing countrywide Seva Parv. The camp aimed at providing preventive health check-ups and consultations to journalists, recognising their important role as the bridge between the government and the people. The camp was inaugurated by Shri Qazi Salman, Director, PIB Srinagar, along with Dr. Murtuza Habib, Facility Director Paras Health.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Qazi Salman said, “The media fraternity plays a vital role in strengthening democracy by acting as a bridge between the government and the people. Their well-being is of utmost importance, and this camp is a small step to acknowledge their contribution while ensuring their health needs are addressed.”

Dr. Murtuza, noted, “Paras Health is pleased to partner with PIB Srinagar in this noble initiative. Journalists often work under immense pressure and stress, and such camps are essential for their health screening and preventive care. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote community health and wellness.”

During the camp, journalists were examined by a team of doctors from diverse specialisations including Pulmonology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, and Internal Medicine. Health consultations, basic diagnostic services, and awareness interactions were provided as part of the programme.

Members of the media fraternity warmly welcomed the initiative and expressed their gratitude to PIB Srinagar and Paras Health for organising the camp. They noted that such efforts not only address their healthcare needs but also reflect recognition of the challenges and pressures associated with their profession.

The camp underlined PIB Srinagar’s continuing commitment to engage with the media community in meaningful ways, both professionally and through welfare-oriented initiatives.

Anti Corruption Court Doda Convicts Syed Ikhlaq Hussain Peer, AEE and Raja Faisal, JE both then posted in PWD(R&B) West Sub Division Doda in trap case

The Hon’ble Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Doda, Ms. Archana Charak, convicted two Engineers—Syed Ikhlaq Hussain Peer, AEE, and Raja Faisal, JE—both then posted in PWD (R&B) West Sub Division Doda, in FIR No. 14/2011 under Section 5(1)(d) read with 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006, and Sections 120-B & 161 RPC registered at Police Station VOJ (now ACB).

The court sentenced each accused to rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 120-B RPC; rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 161 RPC; and rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006.

The case was registered on the complaint of a contractor who had completed blacktopping work on the Doda–Ganeka road. While 75% payment had been released, the accused officers demanded illegal gratification of ₹45,000 for the release of the remaining amount, thereby harassing the complainant.

A trap was accordingly laid at Doda City, during which Raja Faisal, JE, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹45,000 in the presence of independent witnesses. He was arrested on the spot, and further investigation revealed the involvement of Syed Ikhlaq Hussain Peer, AEE.

After completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the Hon’ble Court, which, after trial, convicted both accused and awarded the above sentence.

J&K ACB traps and arrests Shaiq Sultan Bhat, JE &  Mohammad Ayoub Dar, SO  of Electric Division Pantha Chowk, Srinagar red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000 for realignment of HT Line

Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau received a written complaint from a complainant alleging therein that demand of bribe of ₹50,000 by public servants namely Junior Engineer (JE) Shaiq Sultan Bhat and Section Officer (SO) Mohammad Ayoub Dar posted at Power Development Department, Electric Division Pantha Chowk for realignment electric pole installed in his property land situated at Sempora Pantha Chowk etc.

Consequent upon the information and in order to verify the allegations leveled against the public servants, the matter was discreetly verified through a designated officer of ACB Srinagar. On the basis of contents of the complaint, findings and recommendations of verifying officer offence under Sections 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Section 61(2) of the BNS are prima facie established against the accused public servants namely Junior Engineer Shaiq Sultan Bhat S/O Gh. Nabi Bhat, R/O Sanat Nagar, Srinagar, and Sectional Officer Mohammad Ayoub Dar, S/O Gh. Nabi Dar, R/O Sail, Tehsil Awantipora, District Pulwama. Accordingly, a case FIR NO. 18/2025 under Sections 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Section 61(2) of the BNS at Police Station ACB Srinagar today and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted and deputed to Pantha Chowk for laying a trap and to arrest these public servants involved in the commission of crime. The team laid a successful trap and both public servants were apprehended red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹50000 from the complainant. The bribe money of ₹50,000 was recovered on the spot from their possession.

Further investigation into the case is going on.

DC Jammu reviews functioning of RDD

 Stresses on regular monitoring of works to ensure quality construction

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 16: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas today convened a meeting to review the functioning of the Rural Development Department with special focus on implementation of flagship schemes including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-G, MGNREGA and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).

While reviewing the progress under PMAY(G) and MGNREGA, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Block Development Officers to take lead in expediting ex*****on of works and ensure that block-wise plans are effectively implemented. He stressed on timely disbursement of payments under MGNREGA and called for increasing the number of workdays generated so as to provide maximum benefit to the rural population.

The Deputy Commissioner also took a detailed review of block-wise targets and achievements under SBM(G). He assessed the progress of various components including Individual Household Latrines, Community Sanitary Complexes, Solid Waste Management plants, community compost pits and waste management sheds. He emphasised that the ultimate aim under SBM(G) is to ensure proper collection, segregation and scientific disposal of waste and directed the officers to intensify efforts for achieving this objective.

The DC directed the officers to undertake regular inspections of civil works to ensure quality and timely completion. He further instructed the Revenue officials to proactively resolve land disputes hampering developmental works.

The DC reviewed the physical and financial progress under the District Capex Budget 2025-26 and stressed on the need for review of panchayat ghar infrastructure within their respective jurisdictions.

Appreciating the efforts of the Rural Development Department during the recent floods, Dr Minhas lauded the dedication of the officers and urged them to continue contributing meaningfully to the development of the district.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Sher Singh, CPO Ajaypal Singh, ACP Shahzada Noor ul Ain, ACD Danish Rasool Mir besides Block Development Officers.

Two day annual intra-college technology festival TechFusion 2025 concludes at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 16: The two day annual intra-college technology festival, TechFusion 2025 concluded at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

The two-day festival was held under the banner of the Technology Club.  It included a range of competitions designed to test technical knowledge and practical skills.

The mega event was coordinated by Dr. Iqra Altaf Geelani with the support of Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Institute Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, Dean Students’ Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz.

On the opening day, events such as PromptCraft 2025, WHO AM I?, a Typing Contest, and Photopedia were conducted.

Day two featured technical and robotics-based competitions, including Guess the Programming Language?, CAD-a-thon, Drone Workshop, DroneSim Challenge, Structure Battles – Bridge Building, and Code & Circuit Clash.

High-profile contests such as the 5-Hour Forge Hackathon, Robo War, Line Follower Robo, and Object Avoidance Challenge drew wide participation.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia said, “TechFusion 2025 provided our students with an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in practical, real-world contexts.

"Such platforms prepare young engineers to face future technological challenges with confidence," he said.

Dean Students’ Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz, said such techno festivals go beyond technical skills. They foster leadership, teamwork, and innovation, qualities that are vital for holistic development," he said.

Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also stated that events like TechFusion reflect NIT Srinagar’s commitment to nurturing creativity and problem-solving among students. We aim to give our students the right exposure so they can compete at national and global levels, he added.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 15: According to the Chief Engineer, Distribution, KPDCL, in order to carry out the work related to evacuation of power from GIS Harwan, shutdown of 33KV Habbak Burzuhama line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Station at Burzhama shall remain off while power supply to Danihama, Khimber, Teilbal, Burzhama, Shoperbagh, Rahbagh, Gulabagh and adjoining areas will be affected from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM on 16 September, 2025.

Also, to carry out the work of replacement of damaged auxiliary cable at Receiving Station GIS Batamaloo, shutdown of 33KV Exhibition line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Station at GIS Batamaloo shall remain off while power supply to Batamaloo, Moominabad and adjoining areas will be affected from 08:00 AM to 02:00 PM on 18 September, 2025.

Moreover as per a separate shutdown schedule issued here, in order to complete the left over work of stabilization of 33 KV Mattan-Pahalgam line which was halted due to SANJY-2025, shutdown of 33KV Mattan Pahalgam line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Stations at Salia, Hutmurrah, Aishmuqam, Batkoot, Sallar, Pahalgam (AIS)  & Pahalgam (GIS) shall remain off while power supply to Pahalgam, Batkoot, Aishmuqam, Seer, Saller, Akad, Hutmurrah, Salia and adjoining areas will be affected from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM on 18 & 20 September, 2025.
