Police attach residential property acquired through proceeds of drug trade in Pulwama

April 13: Continuing its intensified drive against drug trafficking, Police in Pulwama has attached a double storey residential house valued at โ‚น32,19,000 as per the valuation schedule of the R&B Department, 2022 in Lalhar area of Kakapora, belonging to a convicted narcotics offender.

The action pertains to case FIR No. 42/2018 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kakapora. The property belongs to Ab Hamid Bhat @ Hamid Puj son of Mohd Ismail resident of Lalhar Kakapora, who stands convicted in the said case. The accused has already been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of โ‚น1 lakh by the Honโ€™ble Court of Principal District & Sessions Judge Pulwama.

During the course of investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, the property was established as being acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trade. Accordingly, the same has been attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, following due legal formalities. The attachment was carried out on the spot, and necessary notice has been affixed in presence of police officials and independent witnesses.

This action reflects the zero-tolerance approach of J&K Police towards drug peddling and its firm resolve to target not only offenders but also the assets generated through illegal narcotics activities.

General public is once again urged to come forward with any information regarding drug abuse or trafficking so that timely action can be taken in the larger interest of society.
