Workshop on accounting issues held at Pahalgam
ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 20: With an aim to strengthen financial reporting standards and ensure greater transparency in government accounting practices, office of the Principal Accountant General (A&E), Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the District Treasury Office (DTO), Anantnag, Friday organized the first-ever workshop on accounting issues at Town Hall, Pahalgam.
The landmark event was attended by around 400 Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), officers and officials from the PAG office, and treasury officers and officials of district Anantnag.
In his address, Senior Deputy Accountant General (Accounts), J&K, Mukesh Kumar Bramhane, underscored the workshopโs significance as a capacity-building initiative aligned with the vision of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
He said the program aims to improve the quality, accuracy, and credibility of government accounts, thereby fostering the highest standards of financial transparency.
Delivering a detailed presentation, Senior Accounts Officer highlighted several major accounting challenges affecting the Union Territory Governmentโs accounts. These included budget estimates and classification checks, budgetary provisions under unauthorized heads, operation of Minor Headโ800, royalty accounting, correct booking of capital and revenue expenditure, SNA refund and interest accounting, and accounting of recoveries, among others.
Deliberations were also held on treasury inspection paras, clearance of Red Accounts, and submission of Utilization Certificates (UCs) for GIA Bills.
On the occasion, the Senior Deputy Accountant General announced that similar workshops will be organized across the Union Territory to enhance coordination among DTOs, Treasury Officers (TOs), and DDOs.
Addressing the session, DTO Anantnag, said that the treasuries of the district have been undertaking several initiatives to promote financial transparency and efficiency. Notable efforts include training programs on Pension Suvidha and SN SPARSH, besides the pension verification process across the district, under which more than 17,000 pensioners have been verified, including 3,000 home visits for elderly and infirm pensioners in remote areas.
The workshop marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and best practices in public financial management across Jammu & Kashmir.
