SKIMS Declared Comprehensive Resuscitation Training Centre by IRCF; Launches ‘Journal of Resuscitation’
A Major Milestone in Emergency Medical Training for Jammu & Kashmir
Srinagar, July 25:
The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has achieved a prestigious milestone as it is officially designated a Comprehensive Resuscitation Training Centre (CRTC) by the Indian Resuscitation Council Federation (IRCF). This recognition authorizes SKIMS to conduct certified training in Basic and Comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BCLS and CCLS) for healthcare professionals across Jammu & Kashmir.
To mark this landmark development, SKIMS hosted an intensive two-day workshop on 18th and 19th July 2025, where 12 faculty members were certified as instructors in life support, and 28 postgraduate students successfully completed the training in both BCLS and CCLS.
The formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 19th July between Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS, and Dr. Siddha S.C. Chakra Rao, Chairman IRCF. On this historic occasion, the IRCF’s official journal “Journal of Resuscitation” was also unveiled.
The development follows the recent establishment of a state-of-the-art CPR Skill Lab at SKIMS, equipped with the latest tools and technologies for both basic and advanced cardiac life support. This facility provides hands-on training to medical students, doctors, and paramedics, boosting the region’s capacity to manage cardiac emergencies effectively.
Special recognition goes to Prof. Aijaz Lone, Department of Cardiology, for his leadership as In-Charge of the CPR Skill Lab, and to Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, who coordinated the training programs. Their dedication and meticulous ex*****on ensured the program's alignment with national standards.
With its new CRTC status, SKIMS is now positioned to serve as a regional hub for life-saving training, extending beyond hospitals to empower even laypersons with critical CPR skills—ultimately aiming to improve survival rates in cardiac arrest cases across Jammu & Kashmir.
