Srinagar to Host National "Drivers' Dignity Day" on September 17; AIMTC Invites Stakeholders to Join Historic Mobility Event
Srinagar, September 8, 2026: The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), in association with BARS, ITS India Forum, FICCI, ACMA, FADA, ASDC, SACPPE, and other national mobility organisations and industry partners, will organise National Drivers' Dignity Day in Srinagar on September 17, 2026.
Addressing a press conference, AIMTC representatives outlined the vision behind the initiative, which aims to recognise, appreciate, and promote the dignity, safety, and professional pride of India's millions of professional drivers.
The programme will bring together Samaaj, Sarkaar, and Bazaar on a common platform to acknowledge the indispensable contribution of drivers to India's economy, mobility, and daily life.
Organisers said participation from stakeholders across the country is expected to make the Srinagar event a landmark occasion for India's mobility sector.
AIMTC has appealed to vehicle dealers, transporters, fleet operators, drivers, and automobile industry representatives to participate enthusiastically and complete advance registration for entry passes.
The organisers have urged all sections of society to join the initiative and collectively say "Thank You" to India's professional drivers.

✨MBBS Interns Across J&K Protest for Stipend Hike; Minister Responds
Srinagar, Aug 31: MBBS interns at several government medical colleges and hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir began a coordinated protest on Monday, demanding that their monthly internship stipend be raised from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000.
According to Kashmir News Observer (KNO), protests were held at multiple institutions including GMC Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara, Anantnag, SKIMS Bemina in Kashmir, along with Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri, and Doda.
The protesting interns announced they will stay away from routine duties until their demand is addressed. "The existing stipend is inadequate given our clinical responsibilities, workload, and rising living costs," they said, noting that interns are regularly posted in emergency departments, wards, operation theatres, and ICUs, assisting senior doctors in patient care during their compulsory internship.
Resident doctors at GMC Srinagar have extended their support, calling the demand justified.
Responding to the protest, Minister Sakina Itoo said the government has taken note of the demand and that the matter is currently under review with the Finance Department. She confirmed that after meeting with the interns' representatives, their file was forwarded for examination.
"Their demand is genuine — inflation has risen significantly, and there is a real need to increase the stipend. The Chief Minister has also acknowledged this," Itoo said, adding that a strike was unnecessary since the matter was already being processed. "I don't think going on strike is appropriate, as it affects patient care," she added.

Sujit Kumar Singh Takes Charge of New IGP Kashmir Zone


*Veteran police officer brings extensive experience in counter-insurgency, law and order and security operations across J&K*

Srinagar, Aug 27 (JKNS): Sujit Kumar Singh has taken over as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, following his appointment by the Jammu and Kashmir Government in a major police reshuffle.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated that IGP Sujit assumed charge of IGP Kashmir this evening.

Kumar, who previously served as IG Security and IG Crime in Jammu and Kashmir, brings decades of experience in counter-insurgency operations, security and law-and-order management in the Valley.

A native of Patna, Bihar, and an alumnus of Delhi University’s Hindu College, Kumar has served in several key districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kargil, Reasi, Srinagar and Baramulla.

He has also served as DIG Central Kashmir Range, gaining extensive experience in managing security and law-and-order challenges across the region.

Kumar has further served on central deputation with the Special Protection Group (SPG) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), where he handled important security responsibilities.

His appointment as IGP Kashmir comes at a time when the Kashmir Zone continues to remain a key focus of security and law-and-order management in the Union Territory.

Kumar is expected to draw upon his extensive field and operational experience in his new assignment as head of the Kashmir Zone Police. (JKNS)

😱😢Flu Cases Rise: Don’t Send Sick Children to School, Warns Pulmonologist

Srinagar : Amid rising influenza cases, pulmonologist Dr Naveed has urged people not to take flu symptoms lightly. He advised wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, keeping rooms ventilated and getting annual flu vaccination, especially for high-risk groups.

He stressed that children showing flu symptoms should not be sent to school and patients should isolate to prevent further spread.

“There is no need to panic, but people must be extra cautious. Prevention is better than cure,” Dr Naveed said.
