A Milestone for Meaningful Cinema: Celebrating 40 Million Watch Minutes of Qouluf, The Ensorcelled

In a time when spectacle often overshadows substance, the journey of Qouluf, The Ensorcelled stands as a powerful reminder that meaningful cinema still finds its audience. Crossing the remarkable milestone of 40 million watch minutes is not merely a numerical achievement—it is a cultural moment, a collective affirmation that stories rooted in truth, spirit, and depth continue to resonate across boundaries.

This achievement belongs not only to the film and its makers but to every viewer who chose to engage with a work of quiet intensity and philosophical reflection. In choosing Qouluf, audiences have chosen atmosphere over noise, reflection over distraction, and soul over spectacle. The success of the film signals a rare and precious victory for content-driven cinema—cinema that dares to ask questions, that lingers in silence, that trusts the intelligence and sensitivity of its viewers.

For the film industry of Kashmir, this moment carries even deeper significance. It marks the emergence of a new cinematic confidence—a declaration that stories from this land are not only worth telling, but also worth hearing across the world. After decades of struggle, interruptions, and marginal visibility, this milestone feels like the dawn of a renewed era for Kashmiri cinema—an era where indigenous voices, local languages, and poetic narratives can claim their rightful space on the global stage.

The journey of Qouluf, The Ensorcelled from a deeply rooted cultural vision to a widely embraced cinematic experience proves that authenticity travels far. It proves that when cinema springs from sincerity, from lived experience and spiritual inquiry, it finds its way into the hearts of millions.

As we celebrate 40 million watch minutes, we celebrate more than success—we celebrate belief:

Belief in meaningful storytelling,

Belief in the power of regional voices,

And belief in a reviving Kashmiri film movement that is ready to speak to the world in its own language, rhythm, and truth.

This milestone is not an end—it is a beginning. A beginning for new stories, new courage, and new cinematic futures rising from the valley. And above all, it is a tribute to the audience who proved, through their time and attention, that meaningful cinema still matters.

Here’s to the journey so far—and to the many paths yet to unfold.

The Mutton Dealers Association had already written to the Governor of Punjab on 10 August 2025, seeking assistance regarding their ongoing issues. However, despite sending the letter, they have not received any response from the Governor’s office. The association is concerned about the continued silence from the authorities and feels that their grievances remain unaddressed. This lack of communication has added to their frustration and uncertainty as they wait for official intervention...here is that letter

To His Excellency,The Hon’ble Governor of Punjab

Subject: Urgent Appeal to End Harassment & Illegal Extortion of Livestock Transit Trucks belonging to Kashmiri traders in Punjab.

Respected Sir,

We, the livestock traders whose trucks transit through the State of Punjab, write to you with deep distress and an urgent plea for justice.
In Punjab, there is a system of cattle fairs where a legitimate fee is collected from local livestock trucks. Unfortunately, under the name of the same cattle fair, certain contractors and their agents are illegally extorting money from our livestock trucks that are merely passing through Punjab. Our vehicles originate from other states like Haryana, Delhi, and beyond, carrying livestock legally purchased and bound for our businesses. We possess genuine proof of our consignments and their origins—yet this harassment continues unabated.
If we refuse to pay these unlawful demands, our trucks are stopped, our drivers are abused and threatened, and our livestock are detained—often leading to their death due to delay and neglect. This not only inflicts severe financial losses running into lakhs of rupees daily, but also causes unbearable mental pressure, damage to livelihoods, and loss of life to innocent animals.
We have approached every possible administrative authority for relief. Recently, following a meeting between our government and yours, it was decided to appoint nodal officers and issue strict orders to end these illegal practices. Sadly, on the ground, nothing has changed. The contractors appear to enjoy deep connections, openly defying official orders. When we try to contact these nodal officers, many do not respond, and those who do often claim they are powerless to act. This is not only injustice, it is a shameful violation of the principles of governance in the world’s largest democracy.
Sir, as the Governor of Punjab, you hold the constitutional authority and moral responsibility to protect law-abiding citizens and ensure that justice prevails. What we face is not just a business problem—it is a fight for dignity, fairness, and the rule of law.
We urgently and earnestly request your personal intervention in this matter. We implore you to ensure that the extortion stops, that strict action is taken against those defying the law, and that our right to conduct our lawful trade without harassment is protected.
Justice delayed is justice denied. Sir, we trust in your leadership to uphold the values of our democracy and to stand for what is right. We hope and believe that you will not allow this injustice to continue.

With utmost respect and hope,

Yours faithfully,
Mehraj Ud Din Ganie
General Secretary, All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Union.
