Rains lashed many parts of Kashmir Valley on Monday while authorities in Bandepur district of North Kashmir have issued an avalanche warning.
The Meteorological department in Srinagar has warned of heavy rainfall or snowfall along with hailstorm and thunder squalls at few places over the next 24 hours.
“Many areas of Kashmir Valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains since early morning,” an official of the MET Department said.
He said there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains or snowfall at isolated places over the state.
“Moderate to rather heavy rains or snow will occur at most places over the state over the next 24 hours, while heavy rains or snow would occur at a few places,” he said.
He said there would be an increase in rainfall in the state over the next few days. The weather office also warned of thunder squalls or hailstorm at isolated places over the state during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, authorities in Bandepur have warned and asked people living in the hilly areas to remain cautious.
“In view of the weather predictions received from Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), the Deputy Commissioner, Bandepur has informed people, living in hilly areas of the district, to remain cautious,” an official spokesman said.
He said the Deputy Commissioner has also directed the concerned officers to remain alert.
