JAMMU: Four soldiers including an officer were injured in an accidental gr***de explosion along the line of control (LoC) in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir Friday, said defence sources.
According to the sources, the soldiers were training in Keri area of Akhnoor sector when four of them including a major were injured in an accidental gr***de explosion.
“The explosion occurred when troopers of Gurkha Regiment were undergoing training practice of gr***de firing,” a defence source said.
“The injured troops have been shifted to army hospital for treatment. One of the injured who sustained serious injuries has been airlifted to army’s northern command hospital in Udhampur town,” the source added.

At least five Panchayat members in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have announced their resignations following the killing of a Sarpanch’s father by unknown gunmen last week.
On Friday last, unidentified gunmen shot dead 82-year-old Ghulam Mohammad Dar, father of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sarpanch Mohammad Shaban Dar in Dogripora village in Awantipora.
Official sources said that Sarpanch Mohammad Shaban Dar and Panches Jameela Bano, Mohammad Shaban Khan, Mohammad Akram Dar, all associated with opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Panch Abdul Rashid Dar of the ruling National Conference made announcement at the locals Masjids after congregational prayers were offered last Friday. The Panchayat members had also put posters in their respective areas in Dogripora village announcing their resignation. The posters by the Panchayat members also announced disassociation from pro-India parties.

March 16: 3:34 PM: A minor boy was injured in a road accident in Kangal area of Ganderbal district last evening.
An unknown Tata sumo hit and injured a 13 year’s old Wasif Ahmad son of Imtiyaz Ahmad Gounchi resident of Gounchi Mohallah Akhal near Preng, Ganderbal, in the jurisdiction of Police station Kangan.
The injured Wasif was shifted to Hospital for treatment. Kangan Police has registered a case in this regard.

March 16: 3:31 PM: A 18 years old Shaida Banoo daughter of Ghulan Mohi-u-Din Lone resident of Soin sadnar was attacked by a bear at Soin Sadnar Jungle, in the jurisdiction of Police station Panzalla, Sopore. She sustained injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to the District Hospital Baramulla for treatment.

March 16: 3:35 PM: Eight houses got damaged in two separate fire incidents here on Sunday evening.
Seven houses got damaged when fire erupted at Watal Kadal Daresh Kadal, Srinagar. Fourteen families were residing in these houses. Fire was brought under control with the help of fire tenders and Police.
Meanwhile, fire broke out in the residential house of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Jawahar-Nagar, Srinagar, resulting in damage to the house. Fire was brought under control with the help of fire tenders and police.

March 17, 3:01 PM: One person was killed and two others were wounded when a truck turned turtle in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Monday.
Official sources said that a group of labourers were loading sand in a tipper (truck) from a river at Rakh-litter in Pulwama district when it suddenly turned turtle.
One person was killed on the spot and two others were injured, they said adding others present in the area immediately shifted the injured to hospital.

Rains lashed many parts of Kashmir Valley on Monday while authorities in Bandepur district of North Kashmir have issued an avalanche warning.

The Meteorological department in Srinagar has warned of heavy rainfall or snowfall along with hailstorm and thunder squalls at few places over the next 24 hours.

“Many areas of Kashmir Valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains since early morning,” an official of the MET Department said.

He said there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains or snowfall at isolated places over the state.

“Moderate to rather heavy rains or snow will occur at most places over the state over the next 24 hours, while heavy rains or snow would occur at a few places,” he said.

He said there would be an increase in rainfall in the state over the next few days. The weather office also warned of thunder squalls or hailstorm at isolated places over the state during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, authorities in Bandepur have warned and asked people living in the hilly areas to remain cautious.

“In view of the weather predictions received from Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), the Deputy Commissioner, Bandepur has informed people, living in hilly areas of the district, to remain cautious,” an official spokesman said.

He said the Deputy Commissioner has also directed the concerned officers to remain alert.
