BJP Sends ₹100 Crore Defamation Notice to CM Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, July 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir, has served a legal notice on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, demanding ₹100 crore in damages and an unconditional public apology over his recent allegations that BJP leaders attempted to lure National Conference (NC) MLAs.

According to the notice, Omar Abdullah had claimed that BJP leaders offered NC legislators ₹20–30 crore each, ministerial positions, and assurances of restoring Jammu & Kashmir's statehood in an attempt to engineer defections.

The BJP has termed the allegations false, baseless, defamatory, and politically motivated, asserting that they have seriously harmed the party's reputation. The legal notice reportedly asks the Chief Minister to either substantiate his claims with credible evidence or issue a public apology, failing which the party has warned of initiating appropriate legal proceedings.

The National Conference has not yet issued a detailed response to the legal notice. The development has further intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and the NC in Jammu & Kashmir.

Ayaz Darwi Urges LG Manoj Sinha to Expedite Operationalisation of NTPHC Wagoora
Srinagar, July 13: Janata Dal (United) JKUT State General Secretary Ayaz Darwi has appealed to the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, to intervene and ensure the immediate operationalisation of the newly constructed New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) at Wagoora in Baramulla district.
In a statement issued here, Darwi said that the hospital project, whose construction began in 2016 after persistent public demand, has finally been completed. However, despite the availability of the building and basic infrastructure, the health institution remains non-functional due to the non-deployment of doctors, nursing and paramedical staff, lack of medicines, laboratory facilities, diagnostic services, and other essential healthcare requirements.
He said the commissioning of the hospital building is a significant milestone, but the real objective would only be achieved when it starts delivering quality healthcare services to the people. "A hospital building without doctors, medicines and essential medical facilities serves little purpose and defeats the very objective for which it was established," he remarked.
Highlighting the importance of the area, Darwi said Wagoora is the administrative and commercial hub for nearly 40 surrounding villages. Besides being one of the most populous areas of Baramulla district, it houses several vital government offices, including the Tehsil Office, Block Development Office (BDO), Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Agriculture and Horticulture offices, Cooperative Department offices, and other public institutions, making it a major service centre for the entire region.
He said the absence of a fully functional healthcare facility forces thousands of residents from Wagoora and adjoining villages to undertake long and often difficult journeys to Baramulla and Srinagar for even routine medical treatment. The situation, he said, causes immense hardship to patients, particularly pregnant women, children, senior citizens and those requiring emergency medical care.
Darwi urged Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha to direct the Health & Medical Education Department to immediately post specialist and general duty doctors, nursing and paramedical staff, ensure the availability of essential medicines, laboratory and diagnostic facilities, ambulance services and adequate financial support so that the institution can begin serving the public without further delay.
Expressing confidence in the Lieutenant Governor's commitment towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, Darwi said he hoped the genuine concerns of the people of Wagoora would receive prompt attention.
"The people of Wagoora have waited patiently for nearly a decade to see this long-awaited healthcare institution become a reality. With the infrastructure now complete, there is no justification for any further delay in making it fully functional. Timely access to quality healthcare is a basic right of every citizen, and the people of Wagoora deserve nothing less," Darwi added.

Ayaz Darwi: National Conference Repeating Old Tactics — Public Won't Be Fooled This Time

Jammu/Kashmir | July 11, 2026: Ayaz Darwi, State General Secretary, Janata Dal (United), Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory (JDU JKUT), today criticised the National Conference (NC) over its recent protest at Jantar Mantar, alleging that it reflects a familiar pattern of politically motivated mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections.

In a statement issued to the media, Darwi said the recent protest appears to follow a recurring political strategy aimed at influencing public opinion rather than addressing the genuine concerns of the people.

"Once again, the National Conference is attempting to create political narratives for electoral advantage. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have become politically aware and can distinguish between genuine public movements and politically orchestrated demonstrations," Darwi said.

He further stated that the timing of the protest, coinciding with preparations for the DDC elections, raises important political questions. Darwi urged all political parties to focus on issues that directly impact the people, including employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, development, and public welfare.

"Politics should be about solving people's problems, not creating photo opportunities or headline-driven campaigns. The people deserve accountability, transparency, and practical solutions," he added.

Darwi also appealed to law enforcement agencies and the Election Commission to ensure that all political activities remain peaceful, transparent, and in accordance with the law, while safeguarding a fair and democratic electoral process.

He further called upon the media to objectively examine the timing and organisation of political protests during the election period so that the public receives balanced and accurate information.

Concluding his statement, Darwi expressed confidence that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would make informed electoral decisions based on governance, development, and the credibility of political parties rather than on political rhetoric.
