Director SKIMS Reviews Patient Care, Winter Preparedness and Infrastructure at SKIMS MC

Srinagar, October 14: Director SKIMS, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, today undertook a comprehensive review of patient care services, winter preparedness and ongoing infrastructure projects at SKIMS Medical College.

During the visit, Prof. Ganie conducted rounds of various wards and interacted one-on-one with patients to seek feedback on their experience and assess the delivery of healthcare services. He also interacted with doctors, nurses and other staff and reviewed key aspects of hospital functioning.

Ahead of the winter season, the Director specifically reviewed heating arrangements, cleanliness and other essential patient-care services, stressing the need for preparedness to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for patients and attendants during the challenging winter months.

Prof. Ganie also inspected various ongoing project sites and reviewed the progress of the IPD Block, scheduled for inauguration on December 5. He directed the concerned engineering and administrative teams to ensure timely completion of ongoing works while maintaining quality standards.

He was accompanied by the Principal, SKIMS Medical College; Medical Superintendent, SKIMS; engineering staff and officials of the hospital administration.

It is pertinent to mention that SKIMS Medical College is an important healthcare facility associated with SKIMS, catering to a large patient population while also contributing significantly to medical education and academic activities. The Director SKIMS regularly monitors its functioning to ensure seamless patient-care delivery, efficient hospital administration and a vibrant academic environment.

SKIMS administration is focused on strengthening patient-centric healthcare, improving infrastructure and ensuring preparedness for seasonal challenges.

Dr Mohammad Haseeb Mughal Takes Charge as SKPA Director

Senior police officer Dr Mohammad Haseeb Mughal on Wednesday assumed charge as Director of the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) in Udhampur.

Mughal took over the charge on Wednesday morning and will head the academy, a key training institution of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The academy is responsible for imparting professional training to police officers and strengthening policing standards across Jammu and Kashmir.

Sheep Husbandry Department Distributes 20 Artisan Toolkits to Promote Traditional Namda Craft Under HADP

Budgam, October 14: In a significant step towards strengthening traditional wool-based handicrafts and promoting sustainable livelihoods, the Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir, distributed 20 artisan toolkits among eligible beneficiaries under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), under the project “Promotion of Wool and Pelt for Effective Processing and Marketing,” at the Office of the District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Budgam.

The distribution programme was graced by Dr. Basharat Amin Kuthu, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir, in the presence of Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Mir, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Budgam; Dr. Mubashir Ali, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Budgam; Dr. Asif Iqbal, Fleece Testing Officer, Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir; and Mtr. Raziya, Handicrafts Training Officer, Department of Handicrafts, besides members of the designated committee and other concerned officials.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Basharat Amin Kuthu, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir, emphasised the importance of promoting traditional wool-based handicrafts and empowering artisans through targeted interventions under HADP. He stressed that the effective utilisation of the distributed tools would help improve the quality of Namda products, enhance artisans’ productivity, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. He also highlighted the need to strengthen linkages between the sheep husbandry and handicrafts sectors to ensure better utilisation of locally available wool and promote value addition.

The initiative aims to empower traditional Namda artisans by providing them with essential tools for wool processing and production, thereby preserving Kashmir’s rich handicraft heritage while improving the economic prospects of artisan families. It is also expected to encourage local wool processing and strengthen the marketing potential of traditional wool-based products.

The programme reflects the commitment of the Sheep Husbandry Department towards strengthening the wool sector, supporting traditional craftsmanship, and ensuring that the benefits of government-sponsored schemes reach eligible beneficiaries at the grassroots level.

The participation of officials from both the Sheep Husbandry and Handicrafts Departments underscored the importance of interdepartmental coordination in preserving Kashmir’s traditional crafts and promoting sustainable, wool-based enterprises under HADP.

-Building Session on SWM Rules, 2026 Held at Town Hall Magam

**Magam, Budgam:** Municipal Committee Magam, in collaboration with Municipal Committee Beerwah, organised a capacity-building and awareness session on the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, at Town Hall, Magam, for stakeholders from District Budgam.

The programme aimed to sensitise stakeholders about the provisions of the new SWM Rules, 2026, and strengthen awareness regarding scientific, sustainable and responsible waste management practices.

The session was led by **Mr. Tabraiz Madni, Capacity-Building Expert**, who provided detailed guidance on the key provisions of the SWM Rules, 2026, with particular emphasis on source segregation and the adoption of the **four-bin segregation system**, comprising wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special-care waste.

**Mr. Habeel Shafi, MIS Expert, Swachhata Executives of District Budgam (Team Swaaha)** also attended the session and contributed to the awareness and capacity-building efforts.

During the session, Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) under SWM Rules 2026 were sensitised about their roles, responsibilities and compliance requirements under the new rules. The importance of proper waste segregation, responsible waste handling and adherence to prescribed waste management practices was highlighted. The session also emphasized the need for active participation and coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the rules.

The programme was attended by representatives of Bulk Waste Generators, sanitation workers, the Traders Federation Magam, the Transportation Union Magam, the Street Vendors Association and other stakeholders. The Tax Inspector and Sanitary Inspector of Municipal Committee Magam were also present.

The programme served as an important platform for stakeholder engagement, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and promoting environmentally sustainable waste management practices.

**The Secretary, Municipal Committee Magam, reiterated the commitment of the Committee towards the effective implementation of the SWM Rules, 2026, and called upon all stakeholders to extend their active cooperation in promoting source segregation, ensuring responsible waste disposal and working collectively towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Magam.**

*Shri Harshal Rajesh Mahajan (IPS)* formally assumed charge as *Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal* today during a dignified ceremonial function held at *District Police Headquarters Ganderbal.*

The customary handing over of charge took place between the outgoing *SSP Shri Sudhanshu Dhama-IPS,* and the incoming *SSP Shri Harshal Rajesh Mahajan (IPS).* On his arrival, the new SSP was accorded a warm welcome by senior officers of District Police Ganderbal and was presented with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. During the brief yet impressive function, the outgoing SSP formally handed over the baton to the incoming SSP, symbolizing a smooth and professional transition of command.

Soon after assuming charge, the incumbent officer impressed upon officers to work with zeal, zest and dedication to mitigate the problems faced by the general public. He also stressed the need for a team work and has directed the officers to have transparency in the system, corruption free environment and ensure targeted approach to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society.

Tangmarg, October 12: The Press Club Gulmarg (PCG) has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Taja Begum, wife of Gh Ahmad Dar and a resident of Chandil Nargisbag, Tangmarg, who passed away.

In a condolence statement, the members of Press Club Gulmarg expressed their heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and conveyed their deepest condolences to the family members during this difficult and painful time. The Club said that the demise of a loved one is an irreparable loss, leaving behind deep sorrow and a void that can never truly be filled.
