Army Officer Makes Supreme Sacrifice During Anti-Terror Operation in Rajouri

Lt Beereshwar Goswami Dies After Slipping Into Deep Gorge During Operation Sheruwali; Search Operation Enters 15th Day

RAJOURI, June 7: An Army officer made the supreme sacrifice while performing operational duties during an ongoing anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Sunday.

Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami lost his life after reportedly slipping into a deep gorge in the rugged forest area of Manjakote, where security forces have been conducting a massive anti-terror operation, codenamed “Operation Sheruwali,” to trace suspected terrorists believed to be hiding in the region.

Officials said the young officer was part of the joint security team engaged in the operation, which has now entered its 15th day. The incident occurred amid extremely challenging conditions, including steep mountainous terrain, dense forests and difficult weather conditions.

Despite immediate rescue efforts launched by fellow troops and accompanying teams, Lieutenant Goswami succumbed to the injuries sustained in the fall.

Paying tribute to the fallen officer, the White Knight Corps expressed profound grief over the loss.

In a statement, the Corps said, “GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks express profound grief on the untimely demise of Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami, who made the supreme sacrifice while undertaking operational duties. His unwavering devotion to duty, indomitable spirit and selfless service to the Nation will remain an enduring inspiration to all ranks.”

The Corps also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, officials said the anti-terror operation in the Manjakote area of Rajouri district is continuing, with security forces maintaining an extensive search and cordon to track down the terrorists suspected to be operating in the area.

The sacrifice of Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami has once again underscored the immense challenges faced by security forces while safeguarding the nation’s security in difficult and hostile terrains. (KNC)

LPG Price Hiked by Rs 29 per 14.2-kg Cylinder

New Delhi, Jun 7: Domestic cooking gas LPG price has been raised by Rs 29 per cylinder, marking the second increase in three months as state-owned fuel retailers continue to grapple with elevated global energy costs.

The price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will rise to Rs 942 from Rs 913 with effect from June 7, according to industry sources.

The increase follows a Rs 60-per-cylinder hike on March 7 after the conflict in West Asia disrupted global energy supplies and drove up international fuel prices. Industry sources said that the increase had only partly offset losses incurred on domestic LPG sales.

State-run oil marketing companies were estimated to be losing about Rs 703 on every LPG cylinder sold before the latest revision, the sources said.

The LPG price hike comes amid a broader round of fuel price increases.

Petrol and diesel prices have been raised by a cumulative Rs 7.50 per litre since mid-May, while compressed natural gas (CNG) rates have increased by about Rs 6 per kg.

Despite the recent increases, oil companies continue to sell petrol and diesel below cost, incurring losses of around Rs 11 per litre on petrol and Rs 33.6 per litre on diesel, according to industry sources.

The government has so far avoided a full pass-through of higher international energy prices to consumers, absorbing part of the increase through state-owned fuel retailers as global crude oil and fuel markets remain volatile.–(PTI)
