*PRESS NOTE*
*Baramulla Police Urge Citizens to Dial 112 for Prompt Emergency Assistance*
*Baramulla | August 08, 2026*
As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen citizen-centric policing and ensure timely emergency response, Baramulla Police is conducting a mass media publicity and public awareness campaign regarding *Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Helpline 112*.
The campaign aims to sensitise the general public about the availability and importance of Helpline 112, the unified emergency number for seeking immediate assistance during emergencies. Citizens can dial 112 from a mobile or landline phone to seek police assistance and other emergency support.
Through print and electronic media, social media platforms, public awareness messages, posters, banners and police-public interaction programmes, Baramulla Police is disseminating information about the use of Helpline 112 and encouraging citizens to make responsible use of the facility.
The public is urged to dial 112 in situations requiring immediate emergency assistance, including accidents, law-and-order situations, threats to life, medical emergencies, fire incidents and situations involving women and children. The service is available round the clock to facilitate emergency assistance and other circumstances requiring urgent police intervention.
Citizens are advised to provide clear and accurate information regarding the nature of the emergency and their location while making a call, enabling the emergency response system to facilitate timely assistance.
Baramulla Police has also appealed to the public to use Helpline 112 responsibly and only for genuine emergencies. Prank, false or unnecessary calls may divert emergency resources from persons who are in genuine distress.
Baramulla Police reiterated that effective emergency response depends not only on police preparedness but also on public awareness and responsible citizen participation and urged the people of Baramulla to remember *“112 – One Number for Emergency Assistance”* and to make responsible use of the facility whenever immediate help is required.
Baramulla Police reiterates its commitment to providing accessible, responsive and citizen-focused policing and will continue awareness initiatives to ensure that the benefits of Emergency Helpline 112 reach every section of society across the district.
