**Former MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir Detained Ahead of Protest Demanding Crop Insurance for Apples and Cherries**
**Zainapora, Shopian:** Former MLA Wachi and senior political leader **Aijaz Ahmad Mir** was reportedly detained by police at his residence in Zainapora on Sunday ahead of a proposed peaceful protest seeking the inclusion of apples and cherries under a comprehensive crop insurance scheme.
The protest was planned to highlight the growing concerns of fruit growers who have suffered heavy losses due to recent hailstorms, windstorms, and other natural calamities. The demonstrators were also expected to demand adequate compensation for affected farmers and other measures aimed at safeguarding the horticulture sector.
Speaking before his detention, Mir said that the demand for crop insurance is essential for the survival of thousands of fruit-growing families who depend on horticulture as their primary source of livelihood. He maintained that the proposed protest was intended to be peaceful and democratic.
Supporters and growers expressed concern over the detention, stating that the issues being raised are directly linked to the economic well-being of apple and cherry growers across the region.
