Directs timely submission of estimates, expedited ex*****on of developmental projects, enhanced inter-departmental coordination
SRINAGAR JUNE 06: In order to review the progress of the District Capex Budget for the financial year 2026-27, a meeting of all executing agencies and line departments was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Rifat Aftab Qureshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Aadil Fareed, Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer, R&B, Tatheer Manzoor, Joint Commissioner SMC, Hamid Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, Bashir Ahmad, Executive Engineers of R&B, PHE, PDD, SMC, UEED, Block Development Officers and all other District & Sectoral Officers.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of the progress achieved in the preparation and submission of estimates for works proposed under the District Capex Budget for 2026-27. He also reviewed the physical and financial status of ongoing works under the District Capex Budget 2025-26 and the progress of works being executed under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The Deputy Commissioner further reviewed the status of heritage conservation projects being undertaken in Srinagar district under the Government's Heritage Conservation Scheme aimed at preserving Srinagar's rich cultural and architectural legacy.
While reviewing the submission of estimates for the financial year 2026-27, the Deputy Commissioner was informed that a total of 492 works have been proposed under the District Capex Budget, of which estimates for 232 works have been submitted by various executing agencies so far.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed all executing agencies to ensure timely submission of the remaining estimates so that administrative approvals can be accorded without delay, enabling early tendering, allotment and ex*****on of works. He emphasized that the limited working season must be utilized effectively to maximize developmental outcomes and public benefit.
The DC stressed that all works proposed under the District Capex Budget 2026-27 should be executed in a qualitative and time-bound manner to achieve the intended objectives and strengthen service delivery across sectors.
Reviewing the progress of works under the Constituency Development Fund, the DC was informed that 540 works have been completed out of 756 works tendered across various sectors. He directed the concerned departments to accelerate the pace of ongoing works and ensure their completion at the earliest. He also emphasized the need for prompt submission of estimates for new works proposed under the CDF.
During the review of heritage conservation projects, the DC directed that tendering work be initiated immediately as administrative approval has been accorded to 45 projects under the Heritage Conservation Scheme involving an estimated cost of Rs 63 crore in Srinagar.
Taking an executing agency-wise review of these projects, the DC directed the concerned agencies to mobilize field staff and initiate the tendering process without delay to ensure timely ex*****on of the approved works for preservation and conservation of rich cultural and architectural heritage.
The DC also underscored the importance of close coordination among line departments, strict adherence to timelines, maintenance of quality standards and proactive planning for optimum utilization of resources and effective implementation of developmental projects across the District.

Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and the narcotics network, Anantnag Police conducted a series of raids in connection with the investigation of FIR No. 138/2026 under Sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Bijbehara.

As part of the investigation, police teams carried out searches at the residential houses of Abdul Gani Dar S/O Ali Mohammad Dar and his brother Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, both residents of Tulkhan. Simultaneously, a search was also conducted at the residence of Sajad Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Ahmad Bhat R/O Deedmaribagh, Chadoora, Budgam. The searches were conducted after obtaining search warrants from the competent court and were executed strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures.

It is pertinent to mention that the case pertains to the recovery of 4.465 kilograms of Charas from a vehicle bearing registration number JK04D-2959, which was intercepted by a naka party of Police Station Bijbehara on NH-44.

Investigation into the case is progressing, and all forward and backward linkages connected with the narcotics network are being thoroughly examined. Anantnag Police remains committed to taking stringent action against drug peddlers and dismantling the ecosystem supporting the menace of narcotics.

Police Station Arnia Apprehends Absconding Accused and History-Sheeter Wanted in Long-Pending Case

Jammu, June 06:

In a significant breakthrough, Police Station Arnia has successfully apprehended an absconding accused and history-sheeter, Lucky Choudhary S/o Pardeep Kumar R/o Village Changia, Arnia, Jammu, who was wanted in connection with FIR No. 106/2011 under Sections 341/323 RPC registered at Police Station Arnia.

The accused had been evading arrest for a considerable period and was deliberately avoiding legal proceedings by frequently changing his whereabouts. Acting on specific inputs and following sustained efforts, a dedicated police team of Police Station Arnia successfully traced and apprehended the accused.

Lucky Choudhary is a known history-sheeter with involvement in multiple criminal cases. Besides the aforementioned case, he was also involved in FIR No. 106/2011 under Sections 341/323 RPC and 4/25 Arms Act of Police Station Arnia.

The arrest reflects the commitment of Jammu Police towards tracking down proclaimed offenders, absconders, and habitual offenders who attempt to evade the law. Such actions are part of the ongoing drive to strengthen the rule of law and ensure public safety.

*DC Bandipora Reviews Preparations for Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme*

Bandipora, June 06: In preparation for the upcoming Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme (IPPI) scheduled on June 28, 2026, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Saturday chaired a meeting of the District Level Task Force to review readiness, implementation strategy, logistics and preparedness measures to ensure successful conduct of the immunization drive in all areas of the district.

The meeting was informed that an estimated 61,163 children in the age group of 0-5 years across the three health blocks of district including Bandipora, Hajin and Gurez are scheduled to be administered polio vaccine during the immunization campaign.

It was further informed that 338 vaccination booths and 14 transit vaccination points have been planned across the district for smooth implementation of the programme.

Reviewing the arrangements, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of achieving full coverage of eligible children and directed the Health Department to intensify preparations well in advance of the campaign.

She directed the concerned officers to increase the number of vaccination booths across the district and strengthen transit vaccination points, particularly in Gurez, keeping in view the seasonal migration of nomadic herders and the movement of population through various transit routes.

The DC further emphasized the need for proper maintenance of the vaccine cold chain to preserve vaccine efficacy and directed the concerned from Health Department to ensure that all cold chain infrastructure remains fully functional during the campaign.
She also instructed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bandipora and Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bandipora, to review the IPPI summary sheet and update the plan in accordance with the directions issued during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Dr.Bhajan Kour, BMOs, District Immunization Officer and other concerned stakeholders.

Jammu Police Collaborates with Renowned Cartoonist Shekhar Sharma for Unique “Exhibition on Wheels” Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign

Jammu, June 06:

In a unique and creative initiative to strengthen the ongoing anti-drug awareness movement, renowned cartoonist Shekhar Sharma, popularly known as Bunty Cartoonist, organized an innovative “Exhibition on Wheels” in collaboration with Jammu Police as part of the sustained campaign against drug abuse.

The initiative was conducted under the leadership of SSP Jammu Shri Joginder Singh and with the active support of SP City North Shri Vivek Shekhar, SDPO City North Shri Vikram Bhau, and SHO City Police Station Shri Shakti Sharma, who have been consistently working towards spreading awareness and mobilizing public participation in the fight against drugs.

The exhibition was organized in front of the world-famous Raghunath Mandir, Jammu, where Shekhar Sharma displayed a series of impactful and thought-provoking cartoons created by him to highlight the harmful consequences of drug abuse. Through his creative artwork, he conveyed powerful messages aimed at sensitizing society, particularly the youth, about the dangers of narcotics and inspiring them to lead healthy, productive, and drug-free lives.

The awareness campaign forms part of the larger anti-drug movement launched by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, which seeks to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from Jammu and Kashmir through coordinated efforts involving law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and the public at large.

On the occasion, MLA Jammu East Shri Yudhvir Sethi also attended the programme and appreciated the innovative approach adopted to spread awareness among the masses. Chairman of Team Jammu, Shri Zorawar Singh Jamwal, who pioneered the anti-drug movement in the region over a decade ago, was also present and emphasized the need for collective community action to defeat the menace of drug abuse.

The initiative received an overwhelming response from the public and garnered strong support from various trade and market associations. SHO Among 4 Police Personnel Suspended Over Alleged Compromise In POCSO Case

SAMBA, June 6: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Anuj Kumar, has ordered an inquiry and suspended four police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramgarh Police Station, over allegations of facilitating a compromise in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Official sources said Inspector Bhopinder Singh, SHO Ramgarh, along with one PSI and two ASIs, has been placed under suspension and attached to the District Police Lines (DPL) pending the outcome of the inquiry.

The SSP has also ordered a detailed probe into the allegations to ascertain the facts.

Meanwhile, Inspector Ajay Singh Chib has been posted as the new SHO of Ramgarh Police Station.

In a related development, a Special Police Officer (SPO) has been transferred to Goran Police Chowki.
The action was initiated following complaints regarding the handling of the sensitive case.

Budgam, June 06:The Deputy Commissioner(DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, today visited Imambara Budgam to review the arrangements being put in place for the smooth observance of the ensuing holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
During the visit, the DC reviewed the facilities available at the Imambara and interacted with local residents, and members of the management committee to assess their requirements and concerns ahead of Muharram.
On the occasion, local representatives informed the DC that the major Muharram congregations commence from the 4th Muharram, while the main Aashora procession is scheduled to be taken out on the 10th Muharram from Babul Ilm Mirgund to Imambada Budgam.
The representatives highlighted several demands and issues, including repair and restoration of damaged road stretches, ensuring uninterrupted power supply with adequate backup arrangements, augmentation of potable water supply, strengthening of medical facilities, sanitation measures, traffic regulation to facilitate devotees and visitors during the religious gatherings.
The DC directed the concerned departments to take all necessary measures to ensure seamless arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram.
He instructed the R&B Department to examine and address the damaged road stretches on priority and emphasized the need for a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure the convenience of mourners.
He further directed the Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, adequate backup arrangements during religious gatherings and installation on street lights wherever required.
The Jal Shakti Department was instructed to maintain regular and sufficient water supply throughout the Muharram days, while the Health Department was directed to ensure the availability of medical teams, ambulances, and essential healthcare facilities during major congregations.
The DC stressed the importance of close coordination among all line departments and directed officers to complete all necessary arrangements well in advance.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the District Administration has already initiated advance preparations for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram across the district.
He informed that necessary directions have been issued to all concerned departments to ensure adequate arrangements and essential facilities for mourners, including uninterrupted power and water supply, healthcare services, sanitation, traffic management, and other public utilities.
The DC Said that the District administration is committed towards facilitating the religious observances in a seamless manner and called upon all departments to work in close coordination to address public requirements promptly.
Among others, Joint Director Planning Budgam, Javaid Ahmad Najar; Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), CAHO Budgam, Executive Engineers of R&B, Jal Shakti and PDD; Tehsildar Budgam, BDO Budgam, CEO MC Budgam, representatives of the officers from various concerned departments were present during the visit.
