*JKNHMEA Defers Strike After Positive Intervention by Health Ministry*

Jammu, April 2, 2026:
After receiving a formal call from the Health Ministry, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, the Jammu & Kashmir National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEAK), in coordination with the Joint Coordination Committee of NHM Employees & RNTCP, responded positively and participated in a high-level meeting with the Hon’ble Health Minister and Mission Director, NHM J&K at the Civil Secretariat Jammu.
In a significant outcome of this engagement, JKNHMEAK, along with the Joint Coordination of NHM Employees & RNTCP, has decided to defer its strike call, reflecting its commitment towards dialogue and a peaceful resolution of issues affecting NHM employees.
Addressing the media, Chief Spokesperson Abdul Rauoof termed the meeting as constructive, result-oriented, and encouraging, stating that the government has shown seriousness in addressing the long-pending demands of NHM employees.
He informed that the association has agreed to grant two months’ time to the government for resolving the key issues, including:
🔹 Salary Revision
🔹 Golden Handshake for retired employees
🔹 Comprehensive Social Security measures
“The call from the Health Ministry was a positive step, and we reciprocated in good faith. Today’s meeting, held under the banner of joint coordination, has created a renewed sense of hope among thousands of NHM and RNTCP employees. We believe this engagement will lead to concrete outcomes within the stipulated timeframe,” Abdul Rauoof stated.
He further emphasized that both JKNHMEAK and the Joint Coordination will closely monitor the progress and expect time-bound implementation of the commitments made.
“We have deferred the strike, not withdrawn it. Our patience should not be mistaken for weakness. If the government fails to act within two months, the Joint Coordination will be compelled to resume its democratic struggle with greater unity and intensity,” he asserted.
The association expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Health Minister and Mission Director for their timely intervention and positive approach, and extended sincere thanks to all NHM and RNTCP employees for their unity, discipline, and unwavering support.
This development marks a hopeful turning point, reaffirming that unity, coordination, and dialogue remain the strongest tools in achieving justice.

The association has announced that if the salaries are not released immediately, NHM employees will begin a pen-down strike from Monday, 16 March 2026. As part of the protest, employees of the Kashmir division will stage a demonstration at Sher-i-Kashmir Park.
The Joint Coordination Committee stated that the non-payment of salaries for months has pushed employees and their families into severe financial distress, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan when Eid al-Fitr is approaching.
Divisional President Kashmir, Muneer Andrabi, said:
“NHM employees have always served the health sector with dedication and commitment, yet they are being deprived of their rightful salaries. If the government fails to release the pending wages immediately, NHM employees will have no option but to start a pen-down strike from Monday, 16 March 2026.”
Divisional President Jammu, Dr. Vikas Sharma, said:
“The patience of NHM employees has reached its limit. Despite repeated assurances from the authorities, salaries remain unpaid. The government must take urgent steps to release the dues and prevent the situation from escalating.”
