Dr. Altaf Lal, president of Kashmir Care foundation, is an internationally recognised leader in global health, infectious diseases, regulatory science, and public health strategy. With a career spanning nearly four decades across premier U.S. and international institutions, he has made enduring contributions to malaria research, vaccine development, health systems strengthening, and global partnerships.
Dr. Lal completed his doctoral research at CSIR-CDRI and went on to serve in influential scientific and leadership roles at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). His research has advanced understanding of malaria immunology, epidemiology, evolutionary genetics, and disease burden, with collaborative studies spanning Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Brazil, and Papua New Guinea. His scientific output includes more than 260 publications
He continues to contribute to global health governance through board memberships and advisory roles, including with the Foundation for Disease Elimination and Control of India (FDEC), Sun Pharma Healthcare Society, and the Pakistan Malaria Elimination Consortium. He is also the President of the Kashmir Care Foundation, advancing education and health equity initiatives.
Dr. Lal’s contributions have been recognised with numerous honours, including lifetime achievement awards, national and international public health awards, and commendations from U.S. federal agencies. His career reflects a deep commitment to advancing science, shaping policy, and improving health outcomes worldwide.
