Sundargarh, April 22, 2026:
In response to severe heatwave conditions sweeping across the region, the District Administration of Sundargarh has ordered the temporary closure of all schools from April 23 to April 27, 2026.

According to an official order issued by the District Education Office, the decision has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid rising temperatures. The directive applies to all Government, Government-aided, SSD, OAVs, and private schools running classes from I to XII across the district.

The order, issued under the direction of the Collector, Sundargarh, emphasizes precautionary measures as temperatures continue to soar, posing health risks, particularly to children.

Officials have also circulated the notice to Block Education Officers, school principals, and headmasters to ensure immediate compliance. Further updates regarding reopening will be issued based on weather conditions.

Sundargarh: A dedicated Cyber Crime and Economic Offences (EO & Cyber) Police Station was virtually inaugurated in Sundargarh to strengthen action against rising cybercrime and financial fraud cases in the region.

The police station was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through a virtual ceremony. The initiative aims to enhance the state's capacity to investigate cyber offences, online fraud, and economic crimes more efficiently.

Senior police officials including DIG Western Range Rourkela and SP Sundargarh were present during the inauguration ceremony.

The new police station will serve as a specialized unit equipped to handle cases related to cyber fraud, digital financial crimes, and other economic offences. Officials said the facility will help improve coordination, investigation speed, and technical capabilities of law enforcement agencies in tackling cyber-related crimes.

Authorities emphasized that the establishment of the dedicated cyber police station reflects the government's commitment to ensuring digital safety and protecting citizens from online fraud and economic offences.

Sundargarh Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory in connection with the Yatra and Subhadra Shakti Mela-2026, scheduled from February 10 to February 12, 2026, with restrictions coming into force from 2:00 PM onwards each day.

The advisory has been issued to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety during the mela period, which is expected to witness a large gathering of visitors.

As per the guidelines, four-wheelers (LMVs) will not be allowed to ply from Rangadhipa Chowk towards the College Ground. Vehicles coming from the town side and heading towards the Jatra parking area (backside of Government College) have been advised to take the route via Regent Market – Munda Pada – Aranya Nagar – Kalimandap Chowk, leading to the designated parking field.

An alternative route has also been suggested via Bypass Road – Amruta Nair Girls Hostel Chowk to reach the Jatra parking area. Vehicles exiting the parking zone will be routed towards the Horticulture Office on the Bypass Road through the connected route.

The police have further clarified that no vehicle will be permitted from Rangadhipa Chowk to the Jatra field through the main road during the advisory period.
Strict action will be taken against illegal roadside parking. Any vehicle found parked in violation of the advisory will be penalized as per law, and improperly parked vehicles may be seized and lifted.

Sundargarh Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the traffic arrangements, follow the designated routes, and adhere to instructions issued by traffic personnel to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience for all visitors.

The tender for the proposed drone show is currently live, though officials have clarified that the final approval is yet to be confirmed.

Preparatory Meeting Held for District Festival “Jatra–2026”

Sundargarh, 22/01/26:
A preparatory meeting for the district festival “Jatra–2026” was held at the local Vikash Bhavan under the chairmanship of District Collector and Chairman of the District Culture Council, Dr. Shubhankar Mahapatra.
The District Festival Jatra will be celebrated from 8th to 12th February 2026 at the Jatra Ground near Government College, Sundargarh. Various arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival were discussed in the meeting.
Colourful cultural programmes featuring regional, state and national artists will be presented every evening. A special Star Night, cultural procession, competitions, discussions and felicitation of distinguished individuals and institutions will also be part of the celebrations.
Jatra will also be organized at the block level from 1st to 5th February 2026 across the district.
Senior district officials, departmental officers, representatives of MP and MLA, artists, intellectuals and members of various organizations attended the meeting. The District Collector appealed for cooperation from all to ensure peaceful and successful of the festival.
