Minister-cum-Area MLA Yuksam-Tashiding Inspects the newly constructed road at Lower Arithang

Gyalshing,December 19:Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation, Commerce & Industries, and Food Processing Department, and area MLA of Yuksam-Tashiding Constituency, Mr Tshering T. Bhutia, today inspected the newly constructed rural connectivity road at Lower Arithang under Yuksam-Tashiding Constituency.

The road, measuring approximately 2.5 kilometres, was constructed on the initiative of the Minister-cum-area MLA to address the long-pending demand of the villagers. Earlier, Lower Arithang village had no road connectivity. With the completion of this road, the village has now been connected to the main road.

It may be recalled that during the 2024 Assembly election campaign, Minister Mr Tshering T Bhutia had assured the local residents that he would visit the village only after road connectivity was provided. Fulfilling that commitment, the Minister visited the village following the completion of the project.

The Minister was accorded a warm welcome by the villagers, who expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, the State Government, and the area MLA for fulfilling their long-standing and much-needed demand.

Congratulating the villagers, minister Mr Bhutia stated that the State Government led by the Hon'ble Chief minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay has been consistently working in the interest of the people and assured that public welfare and development works would continue across the constituency.

During the day, the Minister also inspected under-construction Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY) houses in various villages and reviewed the progress of an under-construction bridges.

Renowned Mundhum Scholar Til Bikram Nembang Bairagi Kaila Delivers Lecture on Limboo Language and Literature

Gangtok, 18 December : Renowned dimensional poet and eminent Mundhum scholar from Nepal, Til Bikram Nembang (Bairagi Kaila) delivered an insightful lecture on Limboo language, Mundhum and literature at Limbu Bhawan, DPH, Gangtok, on Wednesday. The programme was organised by the Sukhim Yakthung Sapsok Songcumbho (SYSS).

During his address, Kaila lauded the significant contributions of the Sikkimese Limboo community in the preservation, development, and promotion of Limboo language and literature across various domains, including education, research, and creative writing. He emphasised that although differences exist in language usage among speakers, such sensitive issues related to language and literature should be resolved through dialogue, mutual understanding, and academic discourse, rather than legal means, which may not provide constructive solutions.

Sharing his personal experiences, the scholar reflected on his lifelong engagement with Mundhum studies, linguistic research, and literary pursuits, encouraging students, researchers, and language practitioners to uphold their linguistic heritage with pride and scholarly responsibility.

The programme was attended by several eminent personalities, including former Minister Birbal Limbu; retired Director General of Police Shri Om Hang Limboo retired Secretary and Chairperson of the Sikkim State Teachers Recruitment Board, Smt Vidhya Limboo,retired Secretary and former SPSC Chairman S. B. Limboo,Principal Chief Engineer Suk Bir Limboo and Prof. Dr Bhim S***a of Hyderabad University.

Also present were executive body members of SYSS, Assistant Professors, Limboo language teachers, noted literary figures, and Limbu students from Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Tadong, and Kanchenjunga State University, Sikkim.

The event concluded with an interactive session, reinforcing a shared commitment to the preservation, promotion, and enrichment of the Limboo language, Mundhum, and literary heritage for future generations.

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of Enchey Alumni Association

Proceedings
The meeting began with a Welcome Address delivered by Shri Passang Tsering Bhutia, member, who extended greetings to the Chairman, Executive Members, and other members present.
Under the second agenda, Shri Dorjee Tashi Bhutia, Treasurer, presented the detailed report on accounts, expenditure, and the balance sheet for the Financial Year 2024–2025.
Under the third agenda, Shri Dorjee Tashi Bhutia, Treasurer, read out the resignation letters tendered by Shri Naku Tshering Lepcha, President, and Shri Sonam Tenzing Bhutia, General Secretary, from their respective posts.
Under the fourth agenda, the Chief Patron, Shri Hishey Lachungpa, in his address:
Welcomed the members present.
Requested all alumni members to attend the Annual General Meeting and any other emergency meetings called by the Association without fail. He noted that excuses for absence will not be entertained in the future, as non-attendance has become a recurring issue.
Advised the formation of district-level groups from among alumni members to reach out to alumni residing in the six districts of the state, to ensure that situations such as illness of members or their family members do not go unattended due to communication lapses.
Additionally, a clarification was raised regarding medical claims. Shri Dorjee Tashi Bhutia, Treasurer, informed the house of the clear definition of “family member” as per the existing rules of the Association. He further added that any alteration to this definition may only be considered after thorough examination and with the consent of all alumni members, once a permanent executive body is constituted.

The following resolutions have been unanimously resolved by the august house:
The report presented by the Treasurer, Mr. Dorjee Tashi Bhutia, was accepted by all members present.
It was resolved that the existing ad hoc executive body be dissolved with immediate effect. An interim ad hoc executive body was formed to function until 31st December 2025.

Assistant Treasurer: Ms. Pema Doma Bhutia
It was resolved that the definition of “family member” shall remain as per the existing rules of the Association. Any alteration to this definition may only be considered after due examination and with the consent of all alumni members, once a permanent executive body is constituted.
It was resolved that financial grants for hospitalization will henceforth be admissible only once a year.
It was resolved that the Association shall, as customary, felicitate the toppers of Class X and Class XII of Enchey Sr. Sec. School for the year 2025.
It was resolved that, as a token of gratitude, the Association handed over Rs. 2,000/- in cash to the cook and helpers through the outgoing President.
It was resolved that the Chief Patron welcome the newly nominated President with a Khada and bid farewell to the outgoing President.
Finally, the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the newly nominated President, Mr. Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, to the Chair. He extended his best wishes to all members for a long life, good health, happiness, and the fulfilment of all wishes. The meeting ended with a delicious lunch graciously hosted by the Chief Patron and his family.
