When Akbar set off from Attock Fort on the Indus in 1586, it was believed that he was finally returning to the capital at Fatehpur Sikri. Instead, the Mughal retinue stopped at Lahore and Akbar would remain in the city for a dozen years, anchoring it forever in the Mughal imagination and bolting it onto Hindustan’s expansive scaffolding. মোগল যুগের ইতিহাসচর্চা বিশেষ করে মরবারী ইতিহাসের শ্রেষ্ট প্রতিনিধি ছিলেন আবুল ফজল। আকবরের মন্ত্রী, বন্ধু, রাষ্ট্রনেতা, কূটনীতিবিদ ও সামরিক অফিসার আবুল ফজল ইতিহাস রচনায়। সিদ্ধহস্ত ছিলেন। ঐতিহাসিকের ভূমিকায়, তাঁর সবচেয়ে তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ কীর্তি হল আকবর নামা (Akbar-nama) ও আইন-ই-আকবরি (Ani-i Akbari)-র পৃষ্টাগুলিতে আকবরের মহানতার সহজবোধ্য, পূর্ণাকার চিত্র উপস্থাপনে তাঁর সাফল্য। তিনি আবুল-ফজল, আবুল ফদল ও আবুল ফদল ‘আল্লামি নামেও পরিচিত। আবুল ফজল (১৪ জানুয়ারি, ১৫৫১ – ১২ অগস্ট ১৬০২) মুঘল সম্রাট আকবরের প্রধানমন্ত্রী ছিলেন।
