Indiaโs Olympic javelin champion, Neeraj Chopra, was today honored with the prestigious honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army during a special pipping ceremony held in New Delhi. The event was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.
Chopra, who joined the Indian Army as a Naib Subedar in 2016, has steadily risen through the ranks, being promoted to Subedar in 2021 and Subedar Major in 2022. His appointment to the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel, effective from April 16, 2025, recognizes his outstanding achievements in sports and his exemplary service to the nation.
This honor highlights Chopraโs significant contributions to Indian athletics and celebrates his role as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the country.
