What started as a regular morning walk turned into a meaningful gesture as Monyul FC players, led by Head Coach Gumpe Rime, picked up litter and cleaned parts of Merag Lama Park, popularly known as Drekhang.

Coach Gumpe Rime later shared the moment on social media, urging everyone to avoid littering and to help keep the park clean and beautiful for all.

Monyul FC’s gesture set a fine example of social responsibility. It showed that leadership is not limited to the football field. By taking the initiative themselves, Coach Gumpe Rime and his players reminded everyone that real leadership is about leading by example and inspiring others through actions, not just words.

Indian boxer and Commonwealth Games 2026 silver medalist Lovlina Borgohain has raised concerns after spotting an inaccurate map of India at a restaurant in Glasgow that omitted the Northeast region.

The issue came to light after India’s successful boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games. Lovlina noticed that Mister Singh’s India: The Home of Curry had printed a map of India on its paper napkins and displayed another outside the restaurant, both missing the Northeast.

Expressing her disappointment in a video shared on social media, the Olympic bronze medalist said:

“Please don’t take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our Northeast is missing. Even the map displayed outside has cut off the Northeast. As someone from the Northeast, that really hurts us. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much.”

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh, who was also present at the restaurant, reportedly pointed out that parts of Jammu & Kashmir were also inaccurately represented. He later said the matter was resolved amicably without any confrontation.

Lovlina’s remarks have drawn widespread attention online, with many supporting her call for the accurate representation of India’s map.

Renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nims Dai” Purja has died after being caught in a devastating avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak, the Nimsdai Foundation confirmed on Saturday. He was 43.

Purja, celebrated globally for climbing all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks in a record six months and six days in 2019, was leading an expedition on the 8,051-metre Broad Peak when the avalanche struck on July 30.

The rescue operation, involving experienced climbers, drones and Pakistan Army personnel, was hampered by severe weather and difficult terrain. Authorities confirmed the tragedy after search efforts on the mountain.

Nims Dai, a former Gurkha and British Special Boat Service (SBS) soldier, inspired millions through his record-breaking achievements and the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible. His death marks a major loss for the global mountaineering community.

TAWANG, JULY 31 | NEWZ O’CLOCK: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu was on Friday elected as the President of the Tawang District Football Association (TDFA) during the Association’s Annual General Body Meeting-cum-Election held at GTHS Stadium, Tawang.

The election was conducted in the presence of officials from the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA), election observers, district sports officials, and members of the association.

Along with Pema Khandu, Shri Khoncho Tashi was elected as the General Secretary, while Ms. Drema Choikey was elected as the Vice President. Other members of the new Executive Committee were also elected during the meeting.

Expressing his gratitude, Pema Khandu said he was humbled by the trust and confidence reposed in him. He congratulated the newly elected office bearers and thanked outgoing President and MLA Shri Namgey Tsering for his leadership and contribution towards the development of football in Tawang.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the strong representation of women in the newly elected Executive Committee, stating that football grows stronger when everyone gets an opportunity to lead.

The meeting concluded with addresses by the outgoing and newly elected leadership, followed by a vote of thanks. The newly elected Executive Committee is expected to focus on strengthening grassroots football, encouraging youth participation, and further promoting the sport across Tawang district.

World-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja is feared missing after an avalanche struck an expedition on Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.

The avalanche hit the 8,047-metre peak around midday on Thursday. Initial reports said the expedition included 10 climbers from Pakistan, Oman, China and the United States. The Alpine Club said the entire team has reportedly been out of communication since the incident.

The club said it is coordinating with Pakistan’s top authorities and relevant agencies to launch an immediate search and rescue operation. Helicopters and all available rescue resources are being mobilised, subject to weather and operational conditions.

A former British Army serviceman, Nimsdai served for 16 years with the Brigade of Gurkhas and the elite Special Boat Service (SBS) before becoming one of the world’s most celebrated mountaineers.

He gained global recognition in 2019 after climbing all 14 of the world’s peaks above 8,000 metres in just over six months—a record-breaking achievement featured in the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible.

There has been no official confirmation on the condition of the climbers. Search and rescue operations are continuing.

Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu opened India’s gold medal account at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by clinching the women’s 48kg weightlifting title with a Games-record performance on Sunday.

The 31-year-old weightlifter from Manipur lifted 85kg in the sn**ch and 105kg in the clean and jerk for a combined total of 190kg, setting new Commonwealth Games records and finishing comfortably ahead of the competition.

With this victory, Mirabai secured her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, adding to her titles from Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022. She had earlier won a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Games, further cementing her status as one of India’s greatest weightlifters.

Mirabai’s gold also marked India’s first top podium finish of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, giving the Indian contingent a strong start in the weightlifting competition.

Tawang, July 25 | Newz O’clock:

A 72-hour hunger strike held near Dungyur Mani in Old Market, Tawang, concluded peacefully on Saturday after drawing support from students, youth, and local residents.

The hunger strike was led by social activist Lama Lobsang Gyatso (Anna Lama) along with Phuntso Tashi, Education Secretary of the All Tawang District Youth Organization (ATDYO). The protest was organized in solidarity with social activist Sonam Wangchuk and aimed to highlight concerns over education and the future of students.

During the three-day protest, supporters, students, and well-wishers visited the site to express solidarity with the participants. The Tawang Middle Zone Students’ Union (TMZSU) also extended support to the peaceful demonstration.

Speaking at the conclusion of the hunger strike, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing democratic and peaceful means to raise issues concerning education and youth welfare. They expressed hope that the concerns highlighted during the protest would receive due attention from the authorities.

The hunger strike concluded with a call for unity, improved educational opportunities, and a brighter future for students.
