India’s Olympic javelin champion, Neeraj Chopra, was today honored with the prestigious honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army during a special pipping ceremony held in New Delhi. The event was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.

Chopra, who joined the Indian Army as a Naib Subedar in 2016, has steadily risen through the ranks, being promoted to Subedar in 2021 and Subedar Major in 2022. His appointment to the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel, effective from April 16, 2025, recognizes his outstanding achievements in sports and his exemplary service to the nation.

This honor highlights Chopra’s significant contributions to Indian athletics and celebrates his role as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the country.

Tawang, October 17, 2025 | newz o’clock : The Office of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate, Tawang, has issued a strict order directing immediate removal of all construction materials and debris dumped or stacked along roadsides across the district.

According to the order signed by Shri Rinchin Leta, APCS, in-charge DC-cum-District Magistrate, such materials have been causing obstruction to traffic and damaging public roads in several areas. The directive, issued under Section 133 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, mandates that all unauthorized debris and construction materials be cleared immediately by the respective owners.

The administration has further warned that failure to comply will invite penal action under the BNSS Act, and the materials may be removed at the cost of the defaulter or forfeited by the government.

The order has come into force with immediate effect to ensure public safety and smooth traffic movement throughout Tawang District.

Tawang, October 21, 2025 | newz o’clock :

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Tawang, has issued a traffic advisory in view of the upcoming Tawang Marathon 2025, scheduled for October 24, 2025. To ensure the smooth conduct of the marathon, the movement of all kinds of vehicles will be restricted from 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM on designated routes across the district.

According to the order (No. TJ-293/2025-26), traffic will remain closed between NH-13, SE’s Office, Lhou-Khirmu, Woikher, Namet, Bomdir Supply-Lemberdung, Changprong, Urgelling, and the diversion to War Memorial. Similarly, the route covering Tawang Gate, 190 Mtn. Brigade, War Memorial, MI Room, Zemithang Daur, New Lebrang, and High Altitude Stadium will also be closed during this period.

The advisory further mentions that vehicles heading towards Tezpur, Guwahati, and Itanagar should either leave Tawang before 3:30 AM or after 1:00 PM on October 24 to avoid inconvenience.

All marathon participants are instructed to take the New Market–Ketchenga–Government Higher Secondary School Colony route to reach the High Altitude Stadium, where vehicles carrying participants must drop them off and exit via Regyaling tri-junction.

The district administration has urged the public to cooperate and follow the traffic directions to ensure the successful organization of the Tawang Marathon 2025.

In a significant move after months of deadlock, Ladakh’s key agitators are set to resume talks with the Centre. An eight-member delegation from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), along with MP Haji Haneefa Jan, will meet a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) sub-committee in New Delhi on October 22.

LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjay said the MHA has invited them for talks chaired by the Union Home Secretary. This will be the first direct engagement after the dialogue broke down following protests in Leh on September 24 demanding statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, which resulted in four deaths and over 80 injuries during police action.

Ahead of the meeting, the MHA announced on October 17 a judicial inquiry led by a retired Supreme Court judge into the September 24 incident, one of the key conditions set by LAB and KDA to resume talks. The delegation will include three representatives each from LAB and KDA, their legal advisor, and MP Haji Haneefa.

Dorjay stated the delegation will push for the release of all detainees, including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who remains jailed under the National Security Act, and seek compensation for the victims. “The sub-committee meeting will allow us to raise our issues freely, from detainees’ release to core demands of statehood and the Sixth Schedule,” he said.

KDA leader Sajjad Kargili added, “We are meeting for statehood & Sixth Schedule status, justice for September 24 victims, and release of detainees including Sonam Wangchuk. Only genuine dialogue can restore trust and fulfil Ladakh’s aspirations.”

The LAB and KDA represent political, social, religious, and trade bodies across Leh and Kargil, and have been demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status.
