Guwahati is a city in the Indian state of Assam, located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. It is the largest city in Assam and serves as the commercial and cultural hub of the state. Guwahati is known for its rich cultural heritage, which is reflected in its art, music, dance, and cuisine.
Kamakhya is a Hindu temple located on the Nilachal Hill in Guwahati. It is one of the most important and sacred shrines in the country and is dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, who is worshiped as the embodiment of female power or Shakti. The temple is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, or holy shrines where the body parts of the goddess Sati fell when she was dismembered by Lord Shiva.
The temple attracts thousands of devotees and tourists every year, especially during the annual Ambubachi Mela, which is celebrated in June and marks the menstrual cycle of the goddess. During this time, the temple remains closed for three days, and when it reopens, thousands of pilgrims gather to receive the blessings of the goddess.
Apart from the Kamakhya temple, Guwahati is also home to several other important temples, such as the Umananda Temple, Navagraha Temple, and Basistha Ashram, among others. The city is also famous for its tea gardens, wildlife sanctuaries, and scenic beauty, making it a popular tourist destination in Northeast India.
