A UK lorry driver has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after causing a fatal motorway crash while distracted by po*******hy on his phone.

The driver, Neil Platt, 43, from Bootle, Merseyside, admitted to causing death by dangerous driving after his HGV ploughed into a stationary car on the M58 near Skelmersdale, Lancashire, on May 17, 2024.

His vehicle struck the Hyundai Kona of Daniel Aitchison, 46, pushing it into a tanker that exploded in flames, killing the father-of-two instantly.

Court investigations revealed Platt had been scrolling through X, WhatsApp, TikTok, and YouTube, with explicit content visible, during his three-hour journey. Judge Ian Unsworth KC condemned his actions as “selfish” and called him a “multi-tonne accident waiting to happen.”

Along with his jail term, Platt faces a 13-year driving ban and must pass an extended retest before regaining his licence.

In a jaw-dropping incident from Bihar, a man named Venkatesh responded to a venomous snake bite with an act of shocking revenge. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when a deadly black krait bit him on his way home.

Instead of panicking, Venkatesh grabbed the snake, sank his teeth into it, and bit off its head. Eyewitnesses claim he later carried the snake home, proudly showing it to neighbors before falling asleep beside the carcass.

Family members quickly rushed him to a hospital where doctors administered anti-venom, saving his life. Black kraits are among India’s most lethal snakes, and such encounters are often fatal.

An eight-year-old girl in Kerala’s Kannur district is safe thanks to the heroic actions of a group of young men who intervened after she began choking on chewing gum.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the child, standing on her bicycle, put chewing gum into her mouth and quickly found herself struggling to breathe. Realizing the severity, she urgently pedalled towards a group of men who were nearby purchasing vegetables, demonstrating remarkable presence of mind.

CCTV footage of the incident captures the swift rescue: one man immediately lifted the girl, placed her face down across his arm, and administered firm back blows. Assisted by another youth, he successfully dislodged the gum, enabling the girl to breathe normally again.
