26 Years to Find My Freedom

From childhood, my life was filled with restrictions. What to wear, where to go, how to behave, and even what to study were often decided by others. I had to follow rules like standing up when men entered, wearing a shawl outside, keeping my head down, wearing my mother’s choice of clothes, and staying away from friends’ homes. Even my decision after 10th grade was not truly mine. I was afraid to speak up because I feared being called a bad girl or being punished. So, I buried many of my dreams inside me.

I wanted to break free, so I chose LLB and even made it onto the entrance rank list. But when I was told that becoming a lawyer was not a good choice, fear made me give up on my dream. I ended up studying BA without truly wanting to. I never imagined that the same degree would eventually become a path to my independence. Today, I live my own life in the 🇦🇪UAE, make my own decisions, stand on my own feet, and live with my dreams. Looking back, I realise I lost many dreams and precious years—but I also found myself. Honestly, it took me 26 years to find my freedom. It took 26 years for my life to finally become my own🧿🫂
