* The fire-cracker *
He looked up the sky and got fascinated
by the colorful sparks that lit up the
usually dark night. A red dazzling light in
the sky gave him goosebumps. The flying
rockets looked like shooting stars.
He wondered if he would ever be able to
celebrate like other people. He put his
hand in his pocket.
One..Two…Nine.
Only nine rupees!
How could he purchase crackers with that
much amount? Even the cheapest rocket
cracker costs ten bucks. On top of that
what will would he have for breakfast if
he were to spend this money on crackers?
He gave a second look towards the sky
with teary eyes.
Why was he so poor?
Why was he a street beggar?
Only if he had his own parents!
He looked down the dark street. His heart
was filled with joy on sight of an
unburned fire cracker. Finally, he had his
own cracker.
He picked it up and ran to find a spark to
light it.
I got a match from the labourer sleeping
on the footpath. He has shivering with
excitement, excited as he was about to
see his own cracker lighting up.
He lit the match and ignited the fire-
cracker. It emitted red and green
sparks. He shut his ears, ready for it to
explode. A surge of joy flowed through his
body.
The cracker turned yellow… then dull
red… and decayed with a black smoke.
