Some smiles carry a story far greater than what the eye can see.

This beautiful little warrior was born with a cleft.

Today, she stands here smiling with confidence — holding the simplest treasures in her hands and the brightest future ahead of her.

A few years ago, her parents walked into the hospital with questions, fears, and uncertainty about what life would look like for their child.

Today, they shared this photograph with me.

Not just to show how well she is doing…
But simply to say “Doctor, she is doing well… and she will soon start her LKG.”

Moments like these remind me why cleft care matters.

Cleft surgery is not just about repairing a lip or palate.
It is about restoring feeding, speech, confidence, childhood, and dignity.

Behind every smile like this is a journey —

Seeing her ready to begin school soon is a beautiful reminder that a cleft is only a chapter in a child’s story — never the whole story.

🤍 When Fear Walks Into the Clinic Before the Baby Is Born

Today, an anxious expecting mother came in holding not just her scan report — but a thousand unspoken fears.
Beside her sat her own mother, searching my face for certainty and hope.

An anomaly scan had revealed a cleft lip and palate.
Suddenly, joy turned into questions:

“Will my baby be normal?”
“Can this be treated?”
“Will the child suffer?”
“Did we do something wrong?”

These consultations are not just medical.
They are emotional first aid.

Because parents are not thinking about surgical techniques —
they are thinking about their child’s future, feeding, speech, appearance, acceptance… and whether they will cope.

Yesterday, a colleague gynaecologist referred an expecting mother after her anomaly scan showed a cleft lip in her unborn baby.

She walked in anxious — carrying more fear than reports.
