Two German A7V tanks were photographed moving through Artois France in April 1918 as they made their way to the Western Front. US Army soldier Ivan Babcock of the 165th Signal Photo Company was photographed wearing the crown of the Holy Roman Empire inside a cave in Siegen Germany on the third of April 1945. The cave had just been captured by the United States Army and was being used by the Germans to store valuable works of art as the war closed in.

This remarkable moment was recorded as Allied forces uncovered hidden treasures that had been moved underground to keep them away from bombing raids and advancing troops.
