MLA Marcus N. Marak Dismisses GNLA Regrouping Rumors, Highlights Government Efforts for Youth Empowerment

MLA Marcus N. Marak has dismissed rumors about the regrouping of the GNLA, calling them baseless. He emphasized the government's commitment to youth empowerment through initiatives such as CM Elevate, MSRLS, Focus, and Focus Plus, which provide career opportunities and reduce the risk of militancy.

Marak assured that surrendered militants have been successfully reintegrated into society with financial aid and employment opportunities. He also highlighted the role of improved infrastructure and vigilant authorities in eliminating militant strongholds.

The MLA noted that today’s youth are well-educated and aware of government programs. Various training and sensitization programs have been conducted in collaboration with district administration and block development officers to encourage participation in recruitment drives, especially in the police and home guards departments. The transparent selection process has reassured young job seekers, leading to increased participation and enthusiasm.

Marak also mentioned that competitive exams are being made more accessible, with MCS and MPS officers providing guidance on exam preparation and OMR-based tests. Additionally, initiatives under CML have provided opportunities such as home-stay businesses, vehicle assistance, and government contracts, helping youth establish stable livelihoods.

He dismissed any speculation about a resurgence of militancy, stating that improved road connectivity has further weakened the influence of insurgent groups. Marak reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace and development in Garo Hills, urging any dissatisfied individuals to come forward for assistance.

BJP's Commitment to Revitalizing District Councils in Meghalaya

Feb 13th In a bold statement, Bernard N Marak of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emphasized that the restoration of glory to the District Councils in Meghalaya is possible only under the leadership of BJP. He outlined the party’s vision to strengthen the traditional system of governance through local self-governance and duly elected bodies, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard.

Marak clarified that BJP is not an anti-tribal or anti-Christian party. In fact, he described it as a party that is "pro-people." He pointed out that opposition parties, including Congress, have hindered negotiations for over a decade during their rule, weakening the Autonomous District Councils and stalling their progress.

The framework of the Councils, Marak explained, was designed to empower the Hill Tribals residing in the Hill Districts with autonomous powers. He criticized the Congress party for diluting tribal rights, especially during their tenure in power, accusing them of introducing municipal governance in the Hill Districts and violating Article 243ZC of the Indian Constitution. Congress also, according to Marak, handed over key departments like Forests and Revenue to the State, which led to the crippling of the District Councils.

However, the turning point came in 2014 with the historic Garo Agreement, signed in Delhi with the then Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, and Minister of State (Home), Shri Kiren Rijiju. Marak lauded the BJP for taking the initiative to resolve the decade-long impasse and for ensuring the strengthening of the Autonomous District Councils in the Sixth Scheduled areas of Meghalaya.

Despite this, Marak expressed concern over the delay in the implementation of the settlement by the current state authorities. He vowed that BJP would ensure the agreement is fully implemented in the three District Councils of Meghalaya, bringing about long-awaited reforms for the benefit of the people.

Bernard N Marak reiterated that under the leadership of BJP, the future of the District Councils and the Hill Tribals of Meghalaya will be brighter than ever before.

Chandel and Tengnoupal, two districts in Manipur, India, a total shutdown today. This was called by the Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO) to protest two

The CNPO is against the fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border.
The organization opposes the removal of the FMR, which allowed people living along the border to move freely across it.
The shutdown has resulted in empty streets in both districts, with businesses and transportation likely at a standstill.
Why is this happening?
The CNPO likely believes that border fencing and the scrapping of the FMR will negatively impact the lives of Naga people living in the border areas. These measures could restrict their movement, trade, and cultural exchanges with communities across the border in Myanmar.
It's important to note:
To get a more complete picture, it's advisable to consult news sources and reports from the region.
where various groups often voice their concerns about government policies and their potential impact on local communities.
