The 9-days internet shutdown in Garo Hills has caused real suffering to the people. From students struggling to study to small businesses losing income, the impact has been severe.

The Indian National Congress has rightly raised concern over how such prolonged restrictions affect everyday life. While maintaining law and order is important, completely cutting off communication is not the solution.
People deserve safety and access to basic services. Long internet shutdowns only hurt the public more than they help.

⚠️ PUBLIC CLARIFICATION

A misleading poster related to the upcoming GHADC Election 2026 for Balachanda Constituency is being circulated on Facebook by an account named “Perry Napak,” claiming that Sofior Rahman will be the candidate of the Indian National Congress.
This information is completely false and has not been officially announced by the Indian National Congress. The circulation of such fabricated posters is irresponsible and has the potential to create misunderstanding and tension in the Garo Hills region.
The public is advised not to believe or share unverified information and to rely only on official party announcements regarding candidates for the GHADC Election scheduled on 10 April 2026.
It is important to note that spreading false information that harms a person’s reputation or disturbs public peace may attract legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
• Section 356 – Defamation (spreading false statements damaging a person’s reputation)

• Section 353 – Statements conducing to public mischief or creating fear/alarm among the public
• Section 212 – Furnishing false information to mislead authorities
Legal action may be taken against individuals responsible for circulating such false and misleading information.

On 21st February, the Youth Congress Conference was successfully held at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, bringing together dedicated members committed to strengthening the organization at the grassroots level.
The meeting was led by Timjim K. Momin, President of Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC), in the presence of Shri Thaar Jhony, IYC In-charge of Meghalaya, and Shri Anand Singh, IYC In-charge of Manipur, representing the Indian Youth Congress (IYC).
The conference emphasized teamwork, organizational strengthening, and renewed commitment to empowering young voices within the party. Meaningful discussions were held on future strategies and active youth participation across the region.
It was a highly successful and productive meeting, reflecting unity, enthusiasm, and strong determination to further strengthen the party’s foundation in Meghalaya.
