A Brief History of Udaipur , Tripura
Thousands of years ago Rangamati was the capital of Mog Kingdom. The Arakans used to rule the state from Rangamati. King of Tripura named Jhujaroofa defeated the the king of Mog dynasty and captured Rangamati. He established his new capital at Rangamati in the middle of year 590 AD. In the year 1567 the Chief of Army of the king was Gopi Prasad . He killed the king Ananta Manikya and became the king of Tripura himself. Gopi Prasad was a crazy person. He believed in fad. He was over conscious about the meaning of names. He had some dislike for his original name. He selected a sweet sounding name after a vigorous name searching operation. He changed his name to Uday Manikya. He was not content with the changing of his own name. He changed the name of the capital of the country. He gave the name of Udaipur to the capital of his country. Rangamati began to be called as Udaipur from that point of time. In the year 1760 A.D.Maharaja Krishna Manikya shifted the state capital from Udaipur to Old Agartala . Old Agartala is also called Puran Haveli. Udaipur was the capital of Tripura for 1170 years.
