Brigadier Anjan Kumar Basumatary is a distinguished officer in the Indian Army and the first-ever Brigadier from the Bodo Community of Assam. As of mid-2025, he commands the 29 Artillery Brigade in Pathankot, Punjab, under the Gurj Division, and has extensive experience in operations, including service in the Siachen Glacier and along the Line of Control (LoC).

• Background & Education: He attended a village school in Bodoland, Assam, and later Sainik School Goalpara. He joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) in 1995, graduating in 1998, and later graduated from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun in 1999 with high merit.
• Military Career: Commissioned into the Artillery, he commanded an Artillery unit during the 2016 Uri incident. He has served as an instructor at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai, Army War College (AWC) Mhow, and the School of Artillery in Deolali, training over 5,000 officers.
• Awards & Accolades: He was awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card for operations in the Siachen Glacier and the Eastern Command GOC-in-C Commendation Card on August 15, 2024, for outstanding performance.
• Recent Activity: He is active in community engagement, recently leading "Nation First" seminars and blood donation camps for NCC cadets in 2025.
• Education: He holds M.Sc. degrees in Weapon Technology and Defence Technology from the University of Pune, along with an M.Phil. in Defence and Strategic Studies.
