1890 ರ ದಶಕದ ಘಟನೆ.
ಉಡುಪಿಯ ಬಂಟಕಲ್ ಸಮೀಪದ ಪಂಜಿಮಾರು ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಸೋದೆವಾದಿರಾಜ ಮಠದ ಶಾಖಾ ಮಠವಿದೆ.ಊರ ಮಂದಿ ಈ ಮಠವನ್ನು ಪಂಜಿಮಾರು ಮಠವೆಂದೇ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಅವಧೂತರು,ದೈವಾಂಶಸಂಭೂತರು ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಶ್ರೀ ವೃಂದಾವನ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಕಾಲದ ಈ ಮಠವು ರಸ್ತೆಯಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 2 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ತೆಂಗು,
ಅಡಿಕೆತೋಟ ಕೃಷಿಭೂಮಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಪುಟ್ಟ ವನಸಿರಿಯ ನಡುವೆ ಇದೆ.
1890 ರದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಸೋದೆ ಮಠದ ಅಂದಿನ ಯತಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀವಿಶ್ವಾಧೀಶತೀರ್ಥರು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದ ಪಂಡಿತರು ಮಹಾ ವಾಗ್ಮಿಗಳು ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.ಚೆನ್ನೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜರಗಿದ ಸರ್ವಧರ್ಮ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಸರ್ವೋಚ್ಚ ಮಹಿಳೆಯಾದ ವಿಕ್ಟೋರಿಯಾ ರಾಣಿಯು ವಿಶ್ವಾಧೀಶರ ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಬ್ಬೆರಗಾಗಿದ್ದರು.ಅದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ,
ಜ್ಞಾನಭಂಡಾರವನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಸರಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರ ಕುರಿತಾಗಿ ಅಭಿನಂದನೆಯ ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆದು ಸಮ್ಮಾನ ಪತ್ರ ನೀಡಿ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ವಿಶ್ವಾಧೀಶರ ಪೂರ್ವಜರು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀದೇವಿಯ ಮಹಾನ್ ಉಪಾಸಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಮಹಾಯಾಗಗಳ ಪೂರ್ಣಾಹುತಿಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ದೇವಿಯೇ ಬಂದು ಇವರ ಪೂರ್ವಜರು ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಹವಿಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು ಎಂದು ಪೂರ್ವಜರ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಪುಟಗಳಿಂದ ತಿಳಿದು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರು ಏಕಪಾಠಿ.ಯಾವುದೇ ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟ ವಿಷಯವಿರಲಿ,ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳಿರಲಿ ಒಂದು ಭಾರೀ ಓದಿದರೆ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಂಠಪಾಠವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
ಅಂತಹ ಸಿದ್ದಿ,ಧೀಶಕ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರಿಗೆ ಒಲಿದಿತ್ತು. ಸರಸ್ವತೀ ದೇವಿಯ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಹರಸಿದ್ದಳು.
ಉಡುಪಿಗೆ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರು ಬಂದಾಗ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಪಂಜಿಮಾರು ಮಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯ.ಹಸಿರಿನಿಂದ ಆವೃತವಾಗಿ ಪುಟ್ಟವನದಂತೆ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ವಾತಾವರಣ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರಿಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಇಷ್ಟ.ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯೂ ಕೂಡಾ.
ಪೂಜೆ,ಪಾಠ,ಪ್ರವಚನ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
ಶ್ರೀವಿಶ್ವಾಧೀಶತೀರ್ಥರಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಪೂರ್ವಾಶ್ರಮದ ಸಹೋದರರಾದ ಶ್ರೀವೆಂಕಟ್ರಮಣ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಭಿಮಾನ.
ಶ್ರೀವೆಂಕಟ್ರಮಣ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೂ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಪಾರ ಗೌರವ.
ಜೊತೆಯಾಗಿಯೇ ಇಬ್ಬರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನವೂ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಜೊತೆಯಾಗೇ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಅವರಿಬ್ಬರೂ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಬಹಳ ಹೊತ್ತಿನವರೆಗೆ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿದ ನಂತರ ದೇವರ
ಗುಡಿಯ ಮುಂಭಾಗದ ಚಾವಡಿಯ ಮೇಲ್ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರು ಮಲಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಚಾವಡಿಯ ಕೆಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹೋದರ ಶ್ರೀವೆಂಕಟ್ರಮಣ ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಮಗ ಮಲಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಆ ದಿನ ಆಶ್ವಯುಜ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮಾ.ಕೋಜಾಗರೀ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಪೂಜೆಯ ದಿನ.
ಅಂದು ನಡುರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯತಿಗಳು ಶ್ರೀಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀನಾರಾಯಣ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಪೂಜೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ಆಗಷ್ಟೇ ಮಲಗಲು ತೆರಳಿದ್ದರು.
ಅಂದುನಡುರಾತ್ರಿ. ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದೂವರೆ ಗಂಟೆಯ ಸಮಯ. ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಗ ಶೌಚಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಎದ್ದು ಮಠದ ಹೆಬ್ಬಾಗಿಲಿನಿಂದ ನೂರಡಿ ಹೊರಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಪಾಡಿಯತ್ತ ತೆರಳಿದ್ದ.
ಆ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಘಟನೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು.
ಮಠದ ಬಾಗಿಲನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ ಒಂದೈವತ್ತು ಅಡಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಪುಟ್ಟವನದ ನಡುವಿನ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಆತನ ಮನಸೆಳೆಯಿತು.ಅಲ್ಲಿ
ಹತ್ತೈವತ್ತು ಮರಗಿಡಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ನೂರಾರು ದೀಪಗಳು ಜಗಮಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು.ದೀಪಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಬಗೆಬಗೆಯ ಪುಷ್ಪಗಳಿಂದ ಹೆಣೆದ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಉಯ್ಯಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚತುರ್ಭುಜಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ ಮಿನುಗುವ ಜರತಾರಿ ಸೀರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುತ್ತು,ರತ್ನ ವಜ್ರ,ವೈಢೂರ್ಯ,ಆಭರಣ,ಹಾರಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕೃತಗೊಂಡ ಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಯು ಅಸಂಖ್ಯ ಭಕ್ತರ ನಡುವೆ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವ ದೃಶ್ಯವನ್ನು ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಸುಪುತ್ರ ಕಂಡು ತಬ್ಬಿಬ್ಬಾದ.ನಡುರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಸಮಯ.ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಿದ್ದೆಯ ಮಂಪರು..ಆತನಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇನೆ..ಏನಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಒಂದೂ ಅರಿವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ನಾಟಕವೋ ಅಥವಾ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನವೋ ಏನಿರಬಹುದು ತಲೆಕೆರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ.ದೇವಿಯ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದ ಭಕ್ತರು ಶುದ್ಧ ಕಂಠದಿಂದ ಮಧುರವಾಗಿ ದೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ತುತಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಕೆಲ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂಜೆ ಆರಂಭ ವಾಯಿತು.ಬಹುದೂರದ ತನಕ ಪರಿಮಳ ಬೀರುವ ಬಣ್ಣಬಣ್ಣದ ಹೂಗಳಿಂದ ದೇವಿಯ ಪಾದಕಮಲಗಳಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಚನೆ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ಭಕ್ತಸ್ತೋಮ ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಉದ್ಘೋಷ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾ ಆನಂದಬಾಷ್ಪ ಸುರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಪೂಜೆ ಜರಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಬೃಹತ್ ವೃಕ್ಷವೊಂದರ ಎಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಕ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ.ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಯ ಆರತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಪೂಜೆಯು ಮುಕ್ತಾಯವಾಯಿತು.
ಪೂಜೆ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ದೇವಿಯ ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಾತ್ರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೈವೇದ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಇರಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ವಿತರಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು.ಸೇರಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಭಕ್ತನಿಗೂ ನೈವೇದ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಸಾದವನ್ನು ಬೊಗಸೆ ತುಂಬಾ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.ಪ್ರಸಾದ ವಿತರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಮರದ ಎಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಗನನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಆತನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಾದ ನೀಡಿದ.ಪ್ರಸಾದ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿದ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಗ ಮಠದೊಳಗೆ ಓಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದು ತಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಿ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ.ಮಗನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪರಿಮಳ ಬೀರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಸಾದದ ಸುವಾಸನೆಗೆ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರು ಯೆಚ್ಚೆತ್ತರು. ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಚಕಿತರಾದರು. ಅ ಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರು ಸಹೋದರ ವೆಂಕಟ್ರಮಣ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಸುಪುತ್ರನ ಜೊತೆ ದೇವಿಯ ಪೂಜೆ ಜರಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಧಾವಿಸಿದರು.ಆದರೆ ಪುಟ್ಟ ವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ಬೆಳದಿಂಗಳು ಹೊರತು ಬೇರೇನೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ದೇವಿ,ಪೂಜೆ,ಭಕ್ತರು ಪ್ರಸಾದ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅದೃಶ್ಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು.ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಸುಪುತ್ರ ನಡುರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಈ ಘಟನೆಯಿಂದ ಬೆಚ್ಚಿಬಿದ್ದ. ಕೆಲಕ್ಷಣ ಕೈ ಕಾಲು ಇಡೀ ದೇಹವೇ ತಣ್ಣಗಾದಂತೆ ಬಾಸವಾಯಿತು.ಆತ ಸ್ಥಂಭೀಭೂತನಾದ. ನಾಲಗೆಯೇ ಹೊರಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷಣದ ಮೊದಲು ನೋಡಿದ ಅಪೂರ್ವ ದೃಶ್ಯಾವಳಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಮಾಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಗ ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ವಿವರಿಸಿದ.
ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರ ದಿವ್ಯದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಗೋಚರವಾಯಿತು. ಪೂರ್ವಜರ ದೇವಿ ಉಪಾಸನೆ ಸ್ಮರಣೆಗೆ ಬಂದಿತು.ದೇವಿಯು ಉಯ್ಯಾಲೆ ತೂಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲೇ ಮರುದಿನದ ಪೂಜೆಯು ಜರಗಿತು.ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ದೇವಿ ಪ್ರೀತ್ಯರ್ಥ ಅನೇಕ ಹೋಮ ಹವನಾಧಿಗಳು ಜರಗಿದವು.
ಮುಂದೆ ಕೆಲವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಶ್ರೀವೆಂಕಟ್ರಮಣ ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಸುಪುತ್ರ
ಶ್ರೀವಿಶ್ವೇ0ದ್ರತೀರ್ಥರೆಂದು ಶ್ರೀವಿಶ್ವಾಧೀಶರಿಂದ ಅಭಿಷಿಕ್ತರಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೀಸೋದೆ ವಾದಿರಾಜ ಮಠದ 34ನೇ ಪೀಠಾಧಿಪತಿಯಾಗಿ ನೇಮಿತರಾದರು.ವೈದಿಕ ವಾಂಗ್ಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ,ವೇದಾಂತ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಾರ ಸೇವೆ ಸಾಧನೆ ನಡೆಸಿ ಉಡುಪಿ ಸಮೀಪದ ಇನ್ನಂಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುದೊಡ್ಡ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನೂ ಕೂಡಾ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು.ಮೂರು ಭಾರೀ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣಪೂಜಾ ಕೈಂಕರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿದ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರು ಸ್ವಭಾನು ಸಂ!ರದ ಆಶ್ವೀಜ ಶುದ್ಧ ನವಮಿ 1943ನೇ ಇಸವಿಯಂದು ಹರಿಪಾದ ಸೇರಿದರು.

ಶ್ರೀಸೋದೆವಾದಿರಾಜ ಮಠದ ಕೀರ್ತಿಶೇಷ ಶ್ರೀವಿಶ್ವೋತ್ತಮತೀರ್ಥರು ನಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ ಶ್ರೀವಿಠಲಾಚಾರ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೆಲ ಆಪ್ತರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ಈಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಯಥಾವತ್ತಾಗಿ ಈ ಶುಭಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದಿರಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

An incident dating back to the early decade of 1890's. A branch of Sode Vadiraja Mutt is situated in the region of Panjimaru near Udupi Bantakal. This mutt is widely called as Panjimaru Mutt. This mutt was located in the midst of lush greenery with Agricultural land surrounding it and couple of kilometres interior to the main road. This mutt was widely known to be from the timeline of the Great Saint Sri Vrundavanacharyaru of Sode Mutt.
In the decade of 1890, the then pontiff of Sri Sode Mutt Sri Vishwadheesha Theertha Swamiji was a great scholar and orator too. In the occasion of Sarva-Dharma Sammelana organised in the town of Madras, the then Supreme Lady of British Empire, Queen Victoria was amazed by the knowledge of Sri Vishwadheesha Theertha Swamiji and so she awarded Sri Swamiji with a Gratituous Certificate in which the words were threaded out of Pure Gold Strings.
The family of Sri Swamiji before initiation have a great history if them being great worshippers of Devi. In an incident etched in the history, we come to know that during a Maha-Yagna Devi herself appeared to receive the Offerings in front of the ancestors.
Sri Swamiji was known to be Eka-Paati(a person who can memorize any text by just one glance). He had immense knowledge with his amazing skill which led him to memorize almost all of the Scriptures within no time.
Sri Swamiji most often stayed at this Panjimaru Mutt whenever he visited Udupi. The lush greenery and wonders of nature always attracted Swamiji to this Mutt. Pooja, Pravachana and other performances took place there.
Sri Swamiji had a close connection to his Poorvashrama Brother Sri Venkataramana Acharya and this feeling was mutual. Both Sri Swamiji and his brother travelled and studied together. During the night, Sri Swamiji used to take rest in the platform in the front of the Pooja Room and just below the platform his brother and his brothers son would sleep.
It was the night of Ashwayuja Shukla Poornima. Kojaagari Laxmi Pooja is offered in the midnight by Sri Swamiji and they took rest.
In the midst of the night, Venkatramana Acharya's son felt he wanted to take a p**s so he walked into the bushes a little far from the mutt in the dark.
As he walked into the darkness, he was shocked by the sight. In the midst of the jungle, he could see hundreds of lamps. As he walked closer, he saw a lady with four arms adorned with numerous ornaments seated in a swing stringed with beautiful flowers. There were numerous devotees all around the lady. The boy was awestruck from the sight. In the midnight, that too just out of sleep, he was in shock as to where he was and what was happening around him. His infant mind had a thought that it might be some drama or Yakshagana play happening. The devotees gathered around started chanting various Mantras of Devi and performed pooja to the Devi. They offered various Flowers, Fruits and many other delicacies to the lady. The boy kept observing all this from below a tree. As the Pooja concluded, the Prasada was distributed to all the people who gathered around. The person distributing the prasada observed this boy and handed over some prasada to the boy. The boy who was still in shock ran to wake his father up holding the prasada in his hands. He woke his father and informed the events. The father was shocked seeing such prasada in his sons hand in the midst of the night. Sri Swamiji also was in shock listening to this story. They both rushed towards the location where the boy observed all the events but they found nothing but the fullmoon light glancing on the trees. The people, the lady, the lights, everything vanished within minutes. The boy was in deep shock.
The boy explained every bit of the event to Sri Swamiji and his father with the teary eyes. Sri Swamiji understood the events. The next day he arranged for Pooja in the exact place where the boy had seen Godess being worshipped. Various Yagna and formalities were made for Godess in the Mutt. In few years, the boy was annointed as the successor of Sri Sode Mutt and named Sri Vishwendra Theertha Swamiji. With the blessings of devi that night, he turned out to be a great scholar and knowledgeable saint as his guru Sri Vishwadheesha Theertha Swamiji. He even established an educational institution to the public in the region of Innanje. He performed 3 tenures of Paryaya and attained Vrundavana in the year 1943.
