EKHON: The United Naga Council (UNC) on Tuesday announced an indefinite intensification of its ongoing inter-district economic blockade on major National Highways in Manipur from 1 am on Wednesday.

The decision was taken at an Emergency Presidential Council Meeting held at Ukhrul on September 2, the UNC said in a statement.

The intensified blockade will cover NH-2 as well as NH-202 (Jessami), NH-37 (Jiribam) and NH-102A (Tadubi-Ukhrul), according to the council.

Naga MLAs Unite in Protest, Announce Abstention from Manipur Assembly

EKHON: Naga MLAs, cutting across party lines, held a press conference announcing their decision to abstain from the Manipur Assembly in protest against the killing and mutilation of six Naga men, the delay in delivering justice, and repeated incidents of killings and burning of Naga villagers’ homes.

The MLAs demanded justice and accountability, alleging the involvement of KNF-P and its leadership in the incidents. They also expressed their unwillingness to share the Assembly floor with Deputy Chief Minister Namcha Kipgen, citing her reported marital connection to the KNF-P leader.

The Naga legislators are calling for immediate action and justice for the victims and affected families.

EKHON: The inaugural All Naga Volleyball Championship 2026, organised by the Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) in memory of Late Grinder Muivah, concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday, with Gurgaon Naga Boys and Zeme emerging champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

The four-day championship, which began on September 2, brought together 16 teams — 11 in the men’s category and five in the women’s category — for a series of competitive matches. The tournament was held despite interruptions caused by rain.

EKHON: The Centre on Monday decided to defer the Census exercise in Manipur following a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, reviewed the prevailing situation in the northeastern state and discussed the demand from sections of the people of Manipur to defer the Census until the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Original HS Examination Certificates of 2025 to Be Issued from August 24

The Original Certificates of the Higher Secondary Examination, 2025, Manipur including the Improvement Examination, will be issued from August 24, 2026, during office hours.

Concerned Heads of Institutions or their duly authorised representatives can collect the certificates from the office of the undersigned. Authorised representatives must produce their Institution ID Card and Aadhaar Card.

Nineteen-year-old law student and model Kaziah Liz Mejo from Kerala has been crowned Miss Universe India 2026 on Sunday night at Zee Studios in Jaipur.

She competed against 52 finalists and will represent India at the 75th Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico.

Thadoi Yumnam who represented Manipur at the Miss Universe India 2026 pageant, reached the Top 22 at the grand finale. She won the Miss Wellness Icon subtitle award during the competition.
