Filthy Drains Near Historic Khaada Mandir Expose Municipal Negligence in Poonch
Devotees, Activists Seek Immediate Intervention from District Administration

Deputy Commissioner Poonch

The worst condition of open drains near the historic Khaada Mandir in Poonch has once again brought the functioning of the Municipal authorities under sharp criticism, exposing what residents and social activists describe as glaring negligence and administrative failure.
The area around Khaada Mandir, a revered historical temple, witnesses the daily movement of hundreds of devotees and local residents, with the footfall rising into thousands during religious occasions. Despite its religious and historical importance, the approach road and adjoining drains remain in a highly unhygienic and alarming condition. Overflowing drains, stagnant dirty water and foul smell have made the passage extremely difficult, posing serious health risks to devotees and pedestrians.
Social activist Dr. Sukhvinder Singh, reacting to the situation, termed it a “total failure of the Municipal authorities of Poonch.” He said that it is unfortunate that such a disgraceful condition has gone unnoticed for so long, especially at a place of religious significance where people from different areas regularly visit.
Dr. Singh further pointed out that the problem is not limited to a single drain. According to him, after every spell of rainfall in Poonch, almost all drains in the town remain choked and overflow, reflecting the lack of a proper drainage management system. However, the drain near Khaada Mandir draws special attention due to its proximity to a historical and religious site, making the neglect even more unacceptable.
Local residents and devotees expressed strong resentment over the apathy of the Municipal authorities, stating that repeated complaints have failed to yield any concrete action. Many fear the outbreak of diseases if the issue is not addressed promptly.
Dr. Sukhvinder Singh, along with the general public, has urged the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, to take immediate notice of the situation and direct the Municipal authorities to clean the drains on a priority basis. They have also demanded a permanent solution to prevent such conditions from recurring after every rainfall.
The public has appealed for swift administrative intervention to ensure cleanliness, safeguard public health, and preserve the dignity of the historic Khaada Mandir and its surroundings.

Substandard Footpath Works in Poonch Expose Major Corruption, Says Dr. Sukhvinder Singh
Two-Month-Old Construction in Shambles, Probe Sought Against Contractor and Officials

Poonch|| Rakesh Sharma

Allegations of large-scale corruption have surfaced regarding the construction of footpaths in Poonch, with Dr. Sukhvinder Singh accusing the authorities and contractors of using substandard material in public works, calling it a “big scam” that reflects deep-rooted corruption.
In an interview, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh stated that the footpaths constructed barely two months ago are already in a deplorable condition, clearly indicating the use of poor-quality material. He alleged that contractors deliberately secured tenders at unusually low rates and, with the alleged support of certain local employees, carried out inferior work, resulting in rapid damage and wastage of public funds.
He termed the condition of the footpaths as evidence of a “serious corruption matter” and said that such negligence has not only compromised public safety but also eroded public trust in the system.
Dr. Singh appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, MLA Haveli, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to initiate a thorough inquiry into the ex*****on of the work. He demanded strict legal action against the contractor as well as the officials and employees found involved in the alleged irregularities.
He further revealed that he has prepared a detailed corruption file documenting the entire process, including how the work was initiated, the use of substandard material, the role of specific employees, and the manner in which contractors allegedly withdrew funds. “Everything is clearly documented,” he asserted.
Quoting a popular saying, Dr. Singh remarked, “Yeh public hai, yeh sab jaanti hai,” emphasizing that people are well aware of what is happening on the ground.
He also announced that he would soon mail the complete file of alleged corruption to the Lieutenant Governor and the Central Government, seeking a high-level investigation into the matter.
The allegations have sparked concern among the public, who are now demanding accountability, transparency, and strict action to ensure quality infrastructure and prevent misuse of public money in future development works in Poonch.
