Respect and proud of these women!
This is the first Indian production in three decades to compete, and the first by an Indian woman filmmaker to achieve this honor
In 2015, Payal Kapadia faced disciplinary action from FTII under Gajendra Chauhan for boycotting classes and leading a 4-month long protest against his appointment. FTII later cut her grant.
In 2024, Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light got an amazing eight-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. It's the first Indian film in competition at Cannes in 30 years and the first by an Indian woman filmmaker to get this honor.
Payal Kapadia, a remarkable artist and political voice, was a leading figure in the FTII Pune students' struggle. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her cast, crew, and producers for supporting her “weird idea.”
