An exposure visit was organized for the progressive farmers of Sub-Division Handwara and Sub-Division Sopore under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), with a special focus on the promotion of oilseed cultivation in the region. The programme aimed at creating awareness among farmers about the economic and nutritional value of oilseed crops and their potential to enhance livelihood security through diversification.The event was hosted at the Faculty of Agriculture,Wadura, under the inspiring slogan:

“Pure Oil, Pure Health” – Dean, FOA Wadura
The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧,, highlighted the immense opportunities in oilseed cultivation, stressing its role in reducing dependence on imported edible oils while ensuring both health and economic benefits for the local population. He urged farmers to adopt modern cultivation practices supported under HADP for better yields and profitability.Faculty members played an active role in engaging with the farmers and sharing practical insights. Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, Prof. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Dr. Asif, Dr. Mudsir, Dr. Rayees, along with other scientists and faculty experts, delivered technical sessions on improved varieties, integrated crop management, post-harvest handling, and value addition. Demonstrations and interactive discussions created a platform for farmers to clarify doubts and learn from real-time experiences.The participating farmers expressed deep satisfaction with the exposure visit and pledged to adopt oilseed cultivation on a wider scale in their respective areas. They also committed to becoming ambassadors of change by spreading awareness about the benefits of oilseed crops among their fellow farmers.The programme concluded with a strong note of collective responsibility towards achieving self-reliance in oilseed production in Kashmir, truly reflecting the spirit of the slogan – “Pure Oil, Pure Health.”

The Faculty of Agriculture (FoA), Wadura, a pioneering institution under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), today organized a comprehensive Student Orientation Programme to welcome its new batch of students admitted to the B.Sc Agriculture Degree Programme.
The event, held on the vast and scenic campus of the Faculty, was a landmark occasion for the new students and their parents, marking the beginning of their educational journey. 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧, Dean FoA, Wadura, delivered a warm and inspiring address, officially welcoming the students and their families to the campus.
In his address, Prof. Mir highlighted the institution's commitment to excellence in agricultural education and research. He spoke about the Faculty's legacy as a trailblazer in the field, offering a wide range of academic programmes, including B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Agriculture. Prof. Mir encouraged the students to fully immerse themselves in the academic and co-curricular opportunities available, emphasizing that their time at the FoA would not only equip them with technical knowledge but also shape them into future leaders in the vital field of agriculture.
The orientation programme provided students with a detailed overview of the academic curriculum, campus facilities, and the various resources available to support their growth. It also served as a valuable opportunity for new students to interact with faculty members and their peers, fostering a sense of community and belonging from their very first day. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving the students and parents with a sense of optimism and excitement for the years ahead.

The 𝗛𝗼𝗻'𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿 SKUAST-K, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗱 accompanied by 𝘿𝙧. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙧 𝘼𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙙 𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙞, Director Planning & Monitoring, and engineers from the Estates Wing, visited the Faculty of Agriculture today to review ongoing infrastructural development projects.

During the visit, he inspected the renovation of the Old Academic Block, including laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices, and corridors. Appreciating the visible transformation, he stressed the timely completion of remaining civil and electrical works with the highest quality standards. These upgrades aim to modernize teaching and research facilities, enabling a state-of-the-art academic environment.

Focus on “Waste to Wealth” Programme
At the Old Library, where the renovation of broken furniture is underway, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor also reviewed SKUAST-K’s innovative “Waste to Wealth” programme. This initiative promotes sustainability by repairing and repurposing broken furniture, thereby conserving resources and reducing waste. A dedicated renovation and repair cell has been created under this programme — a first-of-its-kind step in the University.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor remarked:
“We are proud of the success of our ‘Waste to Wealth’ programme, which reflects our commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management.”

He also commended 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧,, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, for closely monitoring the initiative and ensuring its smooth ex*****on.

This was the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor’s second visit to the Faculty in just 20 days, underscoring his commitment to developing world-class infrastructure and fostering an ecosystem of academic excellence and innovation.

𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧, renowned for his expertise in Designing and Analysis of Field Experiments (Agricultural Statistics) and over 34 years of academic excellence, brought a wave of innovation and renewed energy to FoA Wadura. His vision centered on strengthening research collaborations, fostering academic excellence, and enhancing student engagement, making a lasting impact on the faculty's aspirations.
Since February 2025, the faculty has embarked on new initiatives, such as the reclamation of Major Chunk of Land, Previously Known as Gojar Kona Now Recently Named as Nine Deodar Inaugurated by 𝗛𝗼𝗻'𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗱. Launch of an Innovation Clinic, Restoration of Irrigation System across Major Research Fields at FoA, that prioritize both practical agricultural solutions and advanced research methodology. Strategic meetings have led to the inauguration of new farm schools, creating an ecosystem that supports cutting-edge research and hands-on learning.
Prof. Mir’s tenure has not been without challenges; navigating administrative transitions, advancing sustainable agricultural solutions, and adapting to rapid scientific advances have been both hurdles and sources of inspiration for the faculty. These efforts have fueled a sense of excitement and optimism among students, faculty, and the local farming community, who view this era as a "new beginning" for research and academic excellence.
The film documents milestone events such as pledge-taking ceremonies and holistic development programs (HADP) like Organic Farming, High Density Apple Plantations, and Overall Beautification of Campus, capturing the spirit of unity, innovation, and growth at FoA Wadura. The Faculty of Agriculture (FoA), Wadura, SKUAST-Kashmir, convened a significant strategic meeting today in the open-field "Farm School" located near the recently inaugurated Nine Deodar Block. This block was recently inaugurated by the 𝗛𝗼𝗻'𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗱 , and now serves as a vibrant hub for agricultural innovation and demonstration.

The meeting, held under the leadership of 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧, Dean, FoA Wadura, brought together all Heads of Divisions, the Assistant Registrar, the Deputy Comptroller, and non-teaching staff from the Dean’s office to discuss pathways for strengthening research, academics, and inter-departmental collaboration.

In his welcome address, Prof. Shakeel A. Mir expressed his sincere gratitude to the 𝗛𝗼𝗻'𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲 for his trust and support. He emphasized a collective vision for the faculty, stating:
We are one family. Our shared goal is to enhance the faculty’s research capacity and academic excellence.

Prof. Shakeel A Mir praised the ongoing efforts of the faculty and staff, highlighting their critical role in positioning FoA Wadura as a center of agricultural innovation. He commended the Assistant Registrar, Dr. Aijaz H. Parrey, for his dedication and efficient handling of administrative responsibilities, and extended special appreciation to Mr. Sujeel bin Abdullah, Deputy Comptroller, for his steadfast management of the faculty’s financial operations.

Acknowledging the tireless efforts of the Dean’s office team, Prof. S A Mir noted their commitment to resolving student and employee concerns, often working extended and late hours to achieve both academic and field-related objectives.

The Heads of Divisions echoed this spirit of unity and praised the Dean’s proactive leadership.
Dr. Imtiyaz Lone, Head of the Division of Horticulture, remarked:
*"The faculty is moving in the right direction. Tangible improvements in both research and academic performance are evident."*

Prof. Bashir A. Ellahi, Head, Division of Agronomy, provided updates on ongoing research initiatives, while Dr. Asif B. Shikari, Professor, Genetics and Plant Breeding (GPB), underscored the importance of inter-divisional collaboration to maximize the impact of research projects.

A key highlight of the gathering was the growing relevance of the Farm School near the Nine Deodar Block, which has become a model site for organic vegetable production. Scientists from FoA Wadura, under the guidance of Prof. Shakeel A. Mir, have developed advanced production techniques that are attracting attention from agricultural experts / Functionaries and local farmers alike.

The meeting concluded with a strong collective commitment to enhanced cooperation, innovation, and academic excellence, reinforcing the Faculty’s mission to lead in agricultural research, education, and community outreach.

HADP Project No. 13, titled “Adoption and Promotion of Integrated Farming System (IFS)/Integrated Livelihood Systems (ILS) in UT of Jammu and Kashmir, successfully organized and concluded a three-days capacity building training programme on “Integrated Farming System: An approach towards doubling farmers’ income” from August 26–28, 2025 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K). The programme aimed at enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills on integrated farming practices, with a focus on improving farm productivity, profitability, and resource use efficiency for sustainable livelihoods. A total of 30 farmers from Rohama cluster of block Watergam Sopore actively participated in the training. During the programme, experts and faculty members of SKUAST-K conducted interactive lectures, technical sessions, and practical demonstrations on a wide range of themes including crop diversification strategies, integrated nutrient and pest management, protected cultivation for round-the-year production, high-density orchard-based IFS models, livestock and fisheries integration, mushroom cultivation, and the role of apiculture in income diversification. Special emphasis was laid on resource recycling and enterprise selection in IFS for sustainable and profitable farming. Dr. A. A. Saad, Professor of Agronomy, delivered the welcome address. The valedictory function was graced by 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura as Chief Guest. He highlighted the significance of integrated farming systems in ensuring better utilization of farm resources, reducing risks, generating rural employment, and achieving the goal of doubling farmers’ income. HADP Project No. 13 titled “Adoption and Promotion of Integrated Farming System (IFS)/Integrated Livelihood Systems (ILS) in UT of J&K” today launched a 03-day Capacity Building Training Programme (26-28, August, 2025) for farmers at Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K). The programme, themed “Integrated farming system: An approach towards doubling farmers’ income,” aims to equip farmers with scientific knowledge and practical skills in integrated and sustainable farming practices. Around 30 progressive farmers from Rohama Cluster of block Watergam Sopore are participating in the training.
The inaugural session was graced by 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, SKUAST-K, Chief guest of the inaugural session, who highlighted the importance of integrated farming systems in enhancing farm productivity, reducing risks, and ensuring round-the-year income generation for farmers. He emphasized that adopting diversified farming models combining crops, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, and allied enterprises can significantly contribute to doubling farmers’ income in the region. During the 3-day training, experts will deliberate on key aspects of IFS including crop diversification, resource-use efficiency, organic farming, value addition, market linkages, and climate-resilient practices. Practical demonstrations and field visits will also be organized to give hands-on exposure to the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amal Saxena, Prof. Agronomy & Course Coordinator underlined that the HADP Project No. 13 is focused on promoting integrated and livelihood-based farming models across J&K to improve farmers’ economic resilience and ensure sustainable rural development. The training programme is expected to create a strong foundation for farmers to adopt integrated farming system models and serve as torchbearers in disseminating these practices in their respective areas. Wadura, August 27: A one-day training program focusing on organic farming under the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) was held today for Agriculture Extension Officers (AEOs) at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura. The initiative aimed to equip AEOs with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices among local farmers.
The training, inaugurated by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, underscored the critical role of organic farming in improving soil health, protecting the environment, and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability. Dean, FoA, Wadura 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼. 𝙈𝙞𝙧, also acknowledged the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor's ( 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗿 𝗔 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲 ) contributions to the faculty's progress and his continuous support and guidance for implementing new methods in Agri. Education
Dr. Imtiyaz Lone, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Prof. Asif Shikari, and Prof. Khursheed Ahmad were also present, emphasizing the AEOs' crucial role in forming farmer clusters, securing organic certification, and effectively transferring organic farming technologies to the grassroots level.
The program featured expert-led technical sessions and practical demonstrations on creating essential organic inputs, including vermicompost, bio-fertilizers, and bio-pesticides. These sessions provided AEOs with hands-on experience, enhancing their ability to teach farmers how to adopt these methods in their fields.
The training wrapped up with an interactive Q&A session where AEOs exchanged field experiences and collaborated on strategies to strengthen the implementation of organic farming initiatives within the region.
